No matter how big or small...having a plan is crucial.
Here on Whidbey Island, we understand the importance of community and the lasting impact we can have when we come together. Whether it's supporting local nonprofits or preserving the unique spirit of our island, each of us has the power to make a difference—not just today, but for generations to come. As part of National Estate Planning Awareness Week, we encourage you to think about the legacy you want to leave. Estate planning isn’t just about protecting your assets—it’s a chance to ensure that the causes you care about, and the community we all love, continue to thrive long into the future. As we all watch the devastation caused by wildfires in Jasper with broken hearts and a desire to help, we're hoping to quickly mobilize our community and collaborate with a shared purpose. We expect there will be substantial resources emerging to help rebuild the infrastructure, so our immediate focus is to get some money into the hands of the thousands of Jasper hospitality and tourism workers who are seeing their livelihoods destroyed during the peak summer season. There are many steps and discussions to come, but for now we want to create a contact list of all the Edmonton-area businesses and community leaders who want to be part of this initiative. Next steps may include: - Identify the best nonprofit/agency to hold and disburse the funds for our intended purpose - Identify and create key messaging, promotional materials and media - Explore the potential of larger fundraising events - Coordinate smaller campaigns - Identify potential donors and champions. Please fill out this form https://lnkd.in/gRich-B9 , and we'll follow up soon with more discussion and planning. - Mary Bailey, Kaelin Whittaker, Scott Downey, & Peter Keith

Are all federal grants back-breaking, hair-pulling, teeth-clenching, 150-hour endeavors? Are there any that are within the reach of small nonprofits? This question came up recently with some peers in the Grant Professional Mentorship and below are some federal grants that are well within the reach of small nonprofits (let's call small an annual budget of $200K-$500K). 1. National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) | Grants for Arts Projects 2. Department of Agriculture (USDA) | Farm to School 3. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) | Environmental Justice Collaborative Problem Solving 4. Community Projects Funding/Congressional Directed Spending, AKA "earmarks" I've worked with community based organizations to secure funding across all of these grant programs. It is possible! Remember that federal money is also increasingly accessible via private entities that are being awarded federal funding to re-grant. What other grant programs are accessible to small nonprofits?

🌿 Protect Nature, Protect the Future 🌿 The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is driving impactful change across Canada by restoring ecosystems, conserving grasslands, and providing essential resources and education. In Alberta, our grassland conservation efforts are more than just environmental—they’re deeply economic and cultural. By working hand-in-hand with ranchers, we help sustain this vital economic engine of the agricultural sector, ensuring families can preserve their legacy and livelihoods. NCC properties also create opportunities for hunters, nature enthusiasts, and communities to connect with the outdoors. Beyond conservation, we’re safeguarding cultural traditions, supporting local economies, and protecting fragile ecosystems that house countless species at risk. This work is urgent and essential. Together, we can protect Canada’s natural heritage. Your donation fuels this mission, helping us create a greener, stronger future. 💚 Join us in making a difference today. From now until Dec 3rd, any donation to NCC will be doubled! #Conservation #Grasslands #Sustainability #Charity #NatureConservancy #givingtuesday
Mark your calendars: December 3 is #GivingTuesday, but the impact starts November 19! This year in Alberta, Veren will be matching donations made to the Nature Conservancy of Canada from Nov 19 to Dec 3, up to $60,000! Thank you, Veren, for joining us as our gift-match partner and working together to make a difference.

Whether we agree or disagree with election results, the nonprofit sector must continue to serve the community at large—and that means supporting both the individuals on your team and those you serve.
