Amplifying the voice and recommendations of my KPMG US colleagues in cyber Courtney Gleason, CISSP, PMP and Katie Boswell. The state of inclusion benchmark report from Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS) is cited, in addition to Courtney's lived experiences, in the posted article linked. In the post, Courtney references actionable steps to further women in cyber careers, which I also support: "1. Encourage and support women of all ages to explore their interest in technology and cybersecurity from an early stage. Provide resources, workshops, and exposure to help them discover and develop their skills in these fields. 2. Engage in continuous learning and advancement in cybersecurity careers through education, awareness training, and certifications. Stay updated with the latest trends, technologies, and best practices to enhance expertise and remain competitive in the industry. 3. Invest time and effort in actively recruiting and retaining women in the field of cybersecurity. Develop strategies to address barriers and biases that may hinder women's progress and create inclusive recruitment practices to encourage diversity." September 1 marks a significant occasion in the global calendar—International Women in Cyber Day (IWCD). Established to honour the achievements and contributions of women in cybersecurity, this day serves as both a celebration and a call to action for greater inclusion and recognition in a field traditionally dominated by men. The official theme of IWCD 2024 is ‘Cybersecurity in the Digital Age: The Role of Women in Shaping Tomorrow's Security.’ Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS) Lynn Dohm Maréva Koulamallah #womenincybersecurity #womenintech #womenempowerment #womenleaders #womeninbusiness #cybersecurity #cyberfit #cyberday #celebrationday #cybersecurityprofessionals #cyberresilience #menews247 #womeninsociety #digitalinnovation #cybersecurityindustry #calltoaction #internationalday #digitalage #internationalwomen #globalwomen

Every woman in cybersecurity has a story about their journey, and it contains both good and bad. With only about 20% of the cybersecurity workforce being women, and with women leaving the field to cause that number to fluctuate,, it's never more important to not only highlight those situations we face, but also highlight those folks who lift us up, mentor and support, commiserate, and who speak our names in rooms we aren't in. In the article I was only able to highlight my current leader, Gabriel Bassett, but its important to me to highlight several others for their support and guidance along the way. I'll start with Amy Bogac, Jess Vachon Najo Ifield, and Kristin Demoranville, who has been such amazing colleagues and I dare say friends. They've lifted me up, helped me with so many things, and so much more. Add to that list some of my first GRC leaders, Carl J. Gray Sr. and Jennifer Gray, then pepper in Stas Bojoukha, Malcolm Harkins, Dawn Cappelli, CISSP, and Timothy Maynard, PE, GICSP for good measure in so many ways as well. And Dd Budiharto CISSP CISM who is also in this article who is such a bright light in the community and in helping me too. I know there are so many others, but I also know there's a tagging limit on Linkedin. :P And I cannot stress the importance of organizations like Cyversity and Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS) throughout the greater cyber community in helping to elevate women, empower women, and give underrepresented communities a voice, a space to network, and a way to grow too. I'm honored to be part of them and to continue to support and elevate in those spaces too. Now more than ever all of these supports should be lauded, and we should continue to elevate others. The next generation needs us as much as we needed our champions too. #womenincybersecurity #cyversity #womenareawesome #empowerment #authenticity #cybersecurity
https://lnkd.in/eXr58U5y With International Women’s Day tomorrow, March 8th, 2024, we wanted to take the time to hear from women in cybersecurity. Throughout my career, I have noticed that women don’t always want to be seen or heard and representation of females in cybersecurity is necessary to encourage and set examples for those seeking careers. Here, we asked 7 admirable females in cybersecurity to share their journeys along with who championed them along the way and what advice they would give their younger selves. I was pleased and encouraged by the number of supporters each of them has had, both females and males. Take a read and make sure to share with others and young women looking to break in to the industry, great insights and so much positivity. Thank you Bezawit Sumner, Heather Ceylan, MIGNONA COTÉ, Dd Budiharto, Mea Clift, Jennifer Raiford and Zuzanna Banach for sharing your stories. A shout out to Naina Bhattacharya, Jim Routh, Andy Flowers, Mark Johnson, Thomas Sneed, Arlington (Chris) Price, Deanna Farmer, Kim Holder, Kelly Yoshitake, Annessa McKenzie, Stephanie Franklin-Thomas. Sherry Hunyadi, Harshul Joshi, Al Lindseth, Gabriel Bassett, Mike Brady, Hart Rossman, Peter Altabef, Emery Kohut, Mathew Newfield, Matthew Watson, and Scott Meyerhoff for championing these wonderful women. #iwd2024 #internationalwomensday2024 #womenincybersecurity #womenintechnology #womenintech Cyber Security Tribe

I've been championing the cause of increasing women's participation in cybersecurity and have been actively mentoring women at the Mass Cyber Center to inspire more to enter the field. However, despite these efforts, it’s discouraging to witness so many talented women leaving the profession, as highlighted in this CSO article. Attending IT conferences and round tables with CSOs and CISOs, where I'm often the only woman at the table, underscores the urgency of addressing this issue. We need to do more to create an inclusive environment that not only attracts but retains women in cybersecurity. Let's continue to push for change and make a difference together. #InternationalWomenInCyberDay #WomenInTech #Cybersecurity #DiversityAndInclusion #MassCyberCenter
