The logistics of low-volume and prototype IC fabrication, especially for startups and smaller companies, is an elephant-in-the-room challenge in semiconductor manufacturing. Getting your taped-out design directly manufactured by one of the few big Fabs in the world is next to impossible, considering their existing loads of large-volume orders. imec.IC-link's multi-project wafer (MPW) is an innovative supply-chain solution to work around this challenge. The MPW approach allows customers to share real estate on the silicon wafer with others, thereby leading to a win-win situation for both parties - the companies that need the chips and the fabs! The cherry on top is the excellent design services that IC-link offers that add significant value to the design pipeline of the customers, thereby reducing prototyping time and product revisions. It is undoubtedly an excellent model to fuel innovation in the entire industry enabling small players to tap into best-in-class technology for fabrication.
📅 Did you know you can find MPW run schedules on our website? Imec.IC-link offers flexible access to the multi-project wafer (MPW) and volume production at leading foundries for mature and advanced nodes down to 3nm, but also including imec's own innovative technologies such as gallium nitride and silicon photonics. ▪ The principle of MPW service is that you reduce the cost of IC manufacturing – such as mask and fabrication – by sharing them with other customers. ▪ Many customers use this service for initial design cycles and prototyping. ▪ The MPW service supports education, new circuit architectures and structures research, prototyping and even small-volume production. 📌Always up-to-date schedule is available on our website: https://lnkd.in/ewd2kS5Z #imeciclink #asicdevelopment #fabrication #MPW

#Press ⚡To ensure the #reliability of microelectronic systems, lengthy and expensive experiments are often necessary. With the newly launched “mikroVAL” project, ten partners from research and industry under the project lead of Fraunhofer IZM want to make these qualification tests more flexible and less expensive: By using state-of-the-art modeling principles, they are to be simulated realistically and practically. 🔎The aim of the workflow is to #simulate the properties of #microelectronic #components, housings and solder connections while protecting the intellectual property of the manufacturers. The models created can be reused several times and integrated into increasingly complex systems. 👉In the long term, the use of simulations reduces the costs and effort involved in developing reliable microelectronics. This creates an incentive to develop more durable products, which in turn makes a fundamental contribution to conserving resources. 🔗The full text is available on our website: https://lnkd.in/euSsaMkT Hella GmbH, Robert Bosch GmbH, Siemens, BMW Group, budatec GmbH, Fraunhofer IKTS, Technische Universität Dresden, Technische Universität Berlin, Jade Hochschule Olaf Wittler, Marius van Dijk
