The DOSTA project aims at examining from a multidisciplinary perspective, offshore energy storage options (electricity pumped storage and conversion to hydrogen) and alternative methods to transport electricity and/or hydrogen to shore and their feasibility for implementation in the Dutch part of the North Sea. We as New Energy Coalition contribute to the project with knowledge and experience from the theme North Sea as an Energy Region, and coordinate the knowledge dissemination activities. The project was completed in May, and for that reason the DOSTA Final Conference will take place on 4 November in Amsterdam. In accordance with the Renewable Energy Expansion Act (EAG), the Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK) implemented an integrated Austrian Grid Infrastructure Plan („integrierten österreichischen Netzinfrastrukturplan“ - ÖNIP). ÖNIP is an overarching strategic planning instrument for the rapid, targeted expansion and conversion of cleverly interlinked energy infrastructure in #Austria. The interlinked consideration of higher-level #energy #transmission for electricity, gas and hydrogen makes it possible to coordinate the necessary expansion of renewable energy generation with #grid development, #storage and #flexibility options in the best possible way. This is an exciting milestone for Austria and also for the #scientists and research engineers at AIT Austrian Institute of Technology Center for Energy: there should be ample opportunities and work ahead to apply and enhance the tools that have been developed over the past decade to integrate and couple technologies and networks related to #electricity, #renewable #gas, #hydrogen, (waste) heat not only in a technologically but also economically feasible fashion. Are you looking for opportunities in the light of changes to the electricity grid? Flexibility on the supply side as well as of the demand is crucial to integrate renewable power generation while maintaining a stable frequency in the electricity grid and therefore power supply. I had the pleasure to attend the conference ACDC tech 2024 organized by the Latvian distribution network operator Sadales tīkls. As Karīna Viskuba pointed out to allow flexibility of the demand energy storage solutions , but also control systems have to be integrated. Here I was pleased to see the technical solutions example of the German program NEW 4.0. It is a collection of 20 large scale demonstrators (starting from battery storage to Power-to-X) in the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein und the city Hamburg. The region combines high wind generation capacities with the high demand of the city of Hamburg to show that these can be unified in real life. In alignment with this call German-Baltic Chamber of Commerce in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania (AHK) will organize a conference and corresponding B2B meetings on the topic of energy infrastructure including energy storage. Germany has announced plans to launch tenders for 10GW of new gas-fired power plants in 2024, with the aim of transitioning these facilities to clean hydrogen. This move is part of Germany's broader efforts to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and support renewable energy sources. Economy Minister Robert Habeck indicated that the tenders could be finalized before the summer of 2024. Interesting report giving recomendations what Finland need to do to become a green super power. Green super power: = A country having lot of carbon free, cheap and reliable electricity capacity. Aciieved by attracting a lot more renewable energy investments, flexible generation to ensure reliability as well as corresponding increase of electricity consumers like electricfied transport and heating, hydrogen production and energy intensive industry.
