🇩🇰 The concept of techplomacy was pioneered by the Danish government, which appointed the world's first Tech Ambassador to Silicon Valley, Casper Klynge, in 2017. This initiative was a response to the increasing importance of technology in global affairs and the need for governments to engage with the tech industry more effectively. 🔗 Techplomacy involves the conduct and practice of international relations, dialogue, and negotiations on global digital policy and emerging technological issues among states, the private sector, civil society, and other groups. It aims to bridge the gap between governments and tech companies, which often operate at a much faster pace than the public sector. 🤔 Techplomacy faces several challenges, including the need to define its scope and interactions, the cultural gap between governments and tech companies, and the under-representation of countries from the global south in the emerging techplomacy community. The CDG Carl Duisberg Gesellschaft e.V. and the MENA2050 initiative have today announced signing a far-reaching cooperation agreement. The collaboration will focus on joint events, projects, activities, and fundraising efforts to promote international cooperation and development in the MENA region. CDG Carl Duisberg Gesellschaft e.V. is a non-profit association dedicated to promoting international vocational education and personnel development. Founded in 1949 by the Federal Republic of Germany and its states, CDG aims to qualify young scientific professionals both technically and personally for international activities and cooperation. The society works closely with the state development cooperation of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ). MENA2050 is an organization focused on the development and transformation of countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA region). With a focus on 20 key areas, including healthcare, climate change, food and water security, and education, MENA2050 strives for a sustainable and hopeful future for the region. The partnership between CDG Carl Duisberg Gesellschaft e.V. and MENA2050 aims to combine the strengths of both organizations. Plans include joint events and activities such as information forums, workshops, and conferences to promote exchange between Europe and the MENA region. Additionally, special educational programs will be developed to promote intercultural understanding and professional qualification of young people from the MENA region. Joint fundraising initiatives will ensure the sustainability and reach of the projects. "This cooperation allows us to combine our expertise in international education and personnel development with MENA2050's regional competence," explains the board of CDG Carl Duisberg Gesellschaft e.V. "Together, we can make an even greater contribution to international understanding and sustainable development." In MENA2050, it was added: "The collaboration with CDG Carl Duisberg Gesellschaft e.V. opens up new possibilities to realize our vision for the MENA region. Through the exchange of knowledge and experiences, we can develop innovative solutions for the challenges in our region." The first joint projects and events are planned for the coming year. International development partners play a crucial role in fostering global growth and stability. Their efforts in providing financial aid, technical assistance and capacity building support are simply vital for sustainable development. Last week I had the incredible honor of meeting UN agencies in Geneva focusing on solutions to address the most pressing global issues. We shared many insights and ideas, but one clearly stands out for me and it's this: We need to create a pathway that is forward-looking and includes the private sector in order to drive systemic change at scale. The speed and complexity of global issues are outpacing our current systems for cooperation. Cooperation and breaking silos are absolutely mandatory, especially as trust in institutions wanes and funding for international development partners is under threat. We must also recognize the incredible value of the private and public sectors connecting in person at events like this, to reflect and have out-of-the-box discussions that help us move toward a better future. After seeing these photos I asked my self this :From an international relations perspective, what will the 24th Ordinary Summit of the East African Community (EAC) Heads of State benefit from local citizens? I have came up with suggestions ⤵️ 🔸Trade liberalization, 🔸Economic integration, 🔸Sustainable development, 🔹Infrastructure development, 🔹Regional stability, 🔹Security cooperation, 🔹Democratic enhancement, 🔹Cultural integration, 🔹Increased regional influence, 🔸Investment attraction, and 🔸Free movement. 🔸Reducing internal conflicts and external threats, and enhance security cooperation. Economic Advantages: Trade enhancement policies reduce tariffs and non-tariff barriers, promoting a more fluid exchange of goods and services, leading to lower prices, increased product variety, and larger market access for local producers. Security Cooperation: Improved security cooperation can enhance policing, intelligence sharing, and conflict resolution mechanisms, thereby reducing crime across borders and promoting a peaceful environment. Cultural Integration: The summit fosters a sense of regional identity, allowing citizens to appreciate and integrate diverse cultures, potentially reducing xenophobia and enhancing social cohesion. International Standing: Increased Regional Influence: The EAC's collective voice on international platforms can lead to better representation in global affairs, potentially influencing policies that affect trade deals, aid, and international cooperation which benefit citizens indirectly through improved international relations.
