Let’s scale positive impact, together we can change lives!
At the main summit of Unlocking capital for sustainability Jessica Cheam, Founder and Managing Director, Eco-Business, highlighted that no single country is on track to meet its SDG targets. She urges action to counter apathy. Asia is blessed, she said, but the blessings come with great responsibilities.
Ravi Menon, Ambassador for Climate Action & Senior Adviser (National Climate Change Secretariat, Singapore), says, “The only KPI that matters is what’s happening to global temperatures and greenhouse gas emissions. And it’s in Asia that the battle for climate change will be won or lost.”
Kishore Mahbubani, Distinguished Fellow at the Asia Research Institute, National University of Singapore (NUS), emphasised shared responsibility, pointing out that all of humanity is on a single boat that may yet sink or float. He believes that by setting better examples and making the necessary sacrifices, the world can win the battle against climate change.
I believe that the power is in our hands! Our procurement decisions, both individually and corporately, have the potential to either elevate or mitigate the climate crisis.
In our daily choices, we set trends and create demand for sustainable alternatives. By rejecting products that harm both us and the environment, we push regulators to take action, driving change from both the top down and the bottom up.
It’s essential to be informed—choose to know. Read the labels, understand the supply chains behind the products we consume. Together, we must unite and advocate for a better future for our children and future generations.

The six pathways to sustainable development outlined by UNCTAD offer a comprehensive framework to address the multifaceted challenges we face in achieving the SDGs by 2030. Drawing connections between these pathways and the broader context of sustainable development reveals deeper insights into the systemic changes needed.
Climate Change, Biodiversity Loss, and Pollution Management
This pathway underscores the importance of integrating climate and biodiversity actions. A holistic approach here ensures that ecosystem management is not siloed but interwoven with climate mitigation strategies. For instance, promoting regenerative agricultural practices can simultaneously sequester carbon and restore biodiversity.
Energy Transition
Transitioning to renewable energy is critical, but equally vital is the emphasis on energy equity. Universal access to clean energy can empower marginalized communities, fostering economic growth and resilience. Technologies like blockchain and IoT can play a pivotal role in enhancing energy efficiency and managing decentralized energy systems, aligning with the green transition themes I often discuss.
Transformation of Food Systems
This pathway highlights the need for climate-neutral food production, resonating with circular economy principles. By adopting circular practices, such as waste-to-resource initiatives, we can create sustainable food systems that minimize environmental impact and enhance food security.
Education Transformation
Investment in education is foundational, yet we must also rethink educational content to emphasize sustainability and systems thinking. Equipping the next generation with the skills to innovate in fields like AI, blockchain, and IoT can drive sustainable solutions across various sectors, reflecting the dual digital and green transitions.
Social Protection and Decent Jobs
Universal health care and social protection are essential, but integrating these with green job creation can catalyse a just transition. This ensures that economic prosperity is inclusive and sustainable, bridging the gap between economic growth and environmental stewardship.
Inclusive Digitalization
Achieving universal digital access is a game-changer. By leveraging digital platforms for financial inclusion and promoting tech-based entrepreneurship, we can ensure broad-based benefits. This aligns with the vision of a regenerative world, where digital advancements support environmental and social goals.
Together, these pathways illustrate the interconnected nature of sustainable development. They call for coordinated efforts across sectors, informed by innovative technologies and inclusive practices, to create a thriving future for people and the planet.
