🫧 Countdown to TIC Achievement of 2024 🫧 || Tengah Island Conservation Integrated Waste Management Impact 2024 || As 2024 draws to a close, we celebrate the exceptional integrated waste management efforts of our dedicated team, community and stakeholders: 1) A total of 1.15 tonnes of waste was collected and removed from the pristine beaches of Mersing this year through collective efforts. 2) A big shout out to our 399 volunteers from different walks of life, for taking the time to be part of the TIC journey this year. 3) The amount of recycled waste from households and tourists of Pulau Besar Is 345kg of plastic, 233.8kg of metal, 109kg of paper, and 914.4 others. 4) The waste collected through beach cleanup programs includes 182 kg of plastic, 2.4 kg of metal, 21 kg of glass, 18.2 kg of shoes, 11.3 kg of polystyrene, and 55.2 kg of other materials. EcoEmpower Alliance Weekly Update Greetings, EcoEmpower Community! This past week has been a whirlwind of impactful activities and inspiring progress. Here’s a recap and what’s coming up next: 1. Human-Elephant Conflict Project: Our team made a significant visit to the communities around Mole National Park, addressing the human-elephant conflict. We engaged with local residents, listened to their concerns, and discussed sustainable solutions. We're thrilled to see the positive impact and welcome we've received. 2. Women's Empowerment through Plastic Waste Recycling: Our meeting with the women of the Murugu community was a huge success! They are excited to begin our first clean-up exercise and start transforming plastic waste into useful products. Empowering these women through recycling not only promotes environmental sustainability but also economic independence. 3. Youth Empowerment for Cocoa Farmers: Our youth groups have been diligently training to provide essential services to cocoa farmers. By equipping these young individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to support cocoa farming, we are fostering both agricultural success and youth empowerment. 4. Supporting Women Farmers: Our dedicated women's groups continue to receive support and resources to thrive in agriculture. We are committed to empowering women farmers, ensuring they have the tools and opportunities to succeed. 5. Sea Turtle Conservation Initiative: We are in the planning stages of our next big project to save and protect sea turtles. Sustainable remodeling is easier than ever. Materials manufacturers generally do a good job baking environmental stewardship into their products. But there are things you can do as a homeowner to help the cause. Work with your contractor to minimize what goes into landfills. Keep and reuse existing materials as much as possible. Donate what you can to organizations like Habitat for Humanity. It’s a little extra work, but it’s worth it.

You can also support local tree-planting initiatives directly. Yesterday, we received a report that over 50 trees were planted in Nyeri, Kenya, on behalf of the ♻️ Impactors Initiative. 𝐄𝐍𝐕𝐈𝐑𝐎𝐍𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐀𝐋 & 𝐒𝐎𝐂𝐈𝐀𝐋 𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐒 What is an Environmental & Social Initiative? I believe it's anything that positively contributes to the improvement of the environment and social well-being of our communities, whether it is an individual effort or company-driven. I'd love to hear how others define this based on their experiences. It could inspire many looking to start their own initiatives but unsure of where to begin. With the guidance of V Cycle's Eric Swinton, our Environmental and Social Initiative began on November 23, 2022. Our program includes: • Setting up an office collection corner for recyclable waste • Delivering recyclable waste to local Green@community for Green$points • Using these points to redeem daily necessities like rice and cooking oil. • Donating these necessities to underprivileged communities, both directly and indirectly. To date, as of September 12, 2024, our program has recycled over 1403kg of recyclable waste, and we've donated 32 bags of rice to elders in neighboring communities in Shum Shui Po and to local organizations like 北河同行. It's been rewarding to divert waste from landfills and oceans to provide for those in need. Such overshoot is possible only for a limited time. This excessive consumption impacts ecosystems, causing water shortages, floods, fires, erosion, deforestation, and species extinction.
