With its launch under the Horizon Europe program, the EIC has become a beacon for researchers, startups, and SMEs aiming to bring innovative solutions to the market. 🔍 Our latest blog dives deep into the EIC Transition program, a critical component designed to bridge the gap between experimental proof of principle and the commercial market. This initiative is pivotal for advancing novel technologies through maturation, validation, prototyping, and developing sustainable business models aimed at commercialization. Key Highlights: Three Funding Schemes: EIC Pathfinder, EIC Transition, and EIC Accelerator, each tailored to different stages of technology readiness. EIC Transition Focus: Supports activities from TRL 3 or 4 to TRL 5 or 6, ensuring technologies are demonstration-ready. Estabanell, historic Catalan energy and telecom company, has joined Tech Barcelona through ERIA InnoHub, its new corporate venturing vehicle created to foster collaboration with entrepreneurs and promote new tech solutions. 🚀 ERIA, which has a budget of €600,000 for 2024, offers an equity-free acceleration programme aimed at pre-seed and seed startups in the #energy, #telecommunications and #SmartHome sectors. The startups will receive direct support of up to €10,000 non-refundable and access to the infrastructure of the different companies of the Estabanell Group to test concepts and #technology. The call for startups is open until April 29th. 🗣 Josep Solé i Ferrando, director of ERIA InnoHub: “ERIA is another step forward in Estabanell’s historical commitment to innovation. EAIC Responds to the 2025 EIC Work Programme The European Association of Innovation Consultants (EAIC) welcomes the 2025 EIC Work Programme’s ambitious step forward in fostering breakthrough innovations across Europe. With funding increased to €1.4 billion and the launch of the Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform (STEP), we see a powerful move towards empowering deep tech and critical technologies within Europe. However, the lack of significant growth in overall EIC funding means that many high-quality projects will still go unfunded. Startups, especially, remain underrepresented. In the recent 2024 EIC Pathfinder Open call, only 22% of beneficiaries were SMEs, despite a core EIC mission to scale market-ready innovations from startups with disruptive potential. Our Recommendation: Increase early-stage support for startups and SMEs in FP10, blending grants and equity to support their journey from inception to scale. While STEP’s focus on scale-ups is valuable, a more balanced approach would strengthen Europe’s innovation ecosystem. For more see: https://lnkd.in/e-_kqMKm

👉 Despite Sweden's investment in research, we are falling behind in translating this into tangible benefits for society. We need more innovative startups and scaleups to drive growth and create jobs, but significant cuts to the funding of the innovation support system, pose a challenge.
