🚨#AllHatAndNoCattle (aka #FireDrillFundraising)💥 (Post 1 of 5) Fire drill fundraising is an appeal that is high on urgency and emotion with little to no substance. My heart sinks when I see charity leaders resort to the tactic because it erodes trust and relationships with givers. Are there times it is necessary? Sure, but you need to infuse credibility into the invitation. If you don’t, you risk getting labeled “all hat and no cattle” by my Texas friends. And spoiler alert: “all hat and no cattle” is not a sustainable fundraising strategy. This is the first in a series of 5 posts on fire drill fundraising. Please ask yourself honestly, how often are you in fire drill mode? If you are constantly treating your cause as an emergency you will wear out your audience.  People will look away when you come around the corner with an email/phone call/mail appeal/etc. Ouch.
