🌍 Towards more sustainable industries: CALIMERO 3rd General Assembly Following our meeting in Lille last September, the CALIMERO HE Project project consortium met for its third General Assembly, this time in Lyon in the south of France! During two days, February 21-22, the 12 CALIMERO partners got together in project partner's offices TECHTERA (a competitiveness cluster in the French textile industry), to discuss the work packages and tasks of CALIMERO while sharing the progress made with all the partners. We had the opportunity to visit the TEINTURES ET IMPRESSIONS DE LYON factory close by. 🎯The aim of the CALIMERO project CALIMERO is a European Union-funded project to improve existing Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment methodologies of specific sectors from bio-based industries to identify and address pollution-causing problems. Exploring Mycomaterials 🍄🍄 I’m currently attending an exciting course on mycomaterials, made possible by the EU program SUAVE | Urban Agriculture. It is the first edition of the Mycomaterials Course hosted by Mycelia in Belgium, a market leader in spawn production. After the first sessions, I’m continually amazed by fungi and their mycelium. 🧠✨ The week ahead promises to be filled with intensive workshops. From the basics of producing mycelium composite materials and preparing the right mushroom substrate to the precision required in spawn cultivation, this course has so much to offer. Mycelium could play a key role in developing sustainable materials – whether as an alternative to plastics, in packaging, or even in the construction industry. This groundbreaking technology brings us closer to a circular economy and offers an ecological solution to many of the challenges we face. 🍄 The future is literally growing before our eyes – from mycelium!   This project has received funding from the European Union’s EISMEA, Single Market Programme, Call SMP[1]COSME-2021-CLUSTER, under grant agreement number 101074762   Funded by the European Union. Following our meeting in Lille last September, the CALIMERO HE Project consortium met for its third General Assembly, this time in Lyon in the South of France! 📣 News update!! scientifically sound and sustainable salad FTW! 💚 🥬 CR and Nordic Substrate Solutions together with Dr. Christian Hulteberg have been approved funding for the project "Biodegradable plant substrate for hydroponic cultivation of leafy greens”. 🥬 In the project we will develop a biodegradable binder that will hold together a growth substrate, such as peat or coir, for the time required to cultivate and thereafter biodegrade. 🥬 The scientific yet practical approach of the CR team combined with the process and engineering focus of NSS and outside perspective of Hulteberg are all key. Just like rebar and cement, when different things are bound together they can get stronger. In this work it will be proven true both for the teams and the plant substrate pods! 🥬 NSS and CR have been working together for a longer time and with this project the development can both accelerate and get that extra strength through an external perspective, a way of working we all look forward to. Responsible for the project is Georg Gezelius, CEO of Nordic Substrate Solutions and at CR the team is led by Marta Gubitosi who is joined by Adrien Sthoer, Dora Bardfalvy and Carmina Garcia Dominguez. 🥬 The development is funded by the Swedish Board of Agriculture, Jordbruksverket and the EU through EIP-Agri. #foodtech #greentech #dynamicAgri

The second day of our engagement at the landmark ChangeNOW summit has concluded with great success. Our booth for Releaf Paper attracted numerous fascinating visitors, and among the day's highlights was my meeting with Dr Carmen Hijosa the founder of Ananas Anam Ltd. Dr. Hijosa is a pioneer in the field of sustainable materials, having developed an innovative leather alternative from cellulose fibers extracted from pineapple leaves. Her work represents a significant and promising advancement in sustainable material development. My interest in ANANAS ANAM began when several companies inquired about the feasibility of using pineapple leaves as a raw material for our pulp and paper production at RELEAF. Annually, the pineapple industry generates approximately 40,000 tonnes of leaf waste, which traditionally has been discarded or incinerated. At RELEAF, we perceive this as a valuable resource, holding tremendous potential for the production of functional long-fiber cellulose. This can serve not only as a filler but also as a sustainable replacement for traditional fibers in paper products, particularly those used for sanitary and hygienic purposes. The expertise that Dr. Hijosa brings in establishing supply chain infrastructures, combined with our technological innovations, lays the groundwork for exploring exciting new avenues in sustainable material production. Reflecting on my journey back from the exhibition, I am struck by the interconnectedness of our global community. It's a small world where everyone is connected, sharing a common objective. It is in these gatherings, among like-minded individuals, that groundbreaking projects are conceived and nurtured. 🌿I3-4-BIOFERTILIZERS project is live on Linkedin! On September 12 and 13, the kick-off meeting for the new European #I3 project, I3-4-BIOFERTILIZERS, was held in Vic, Spain. 🤝This ambitious three-year project aims at promoting #interregional cooperation in the biofertilizers and circular #bioeconomy sectors by bringing together European leading actors from 8 EU countries and 13 different EU regions. It seeks to support the development of a new transnational value chain to make #agricultural practices even more #sustainable. 💚At the heart of I3-4-BIOFERTILIZERS project is the development of 8 #investment projects, each focused on developing and enhancing innovative and sustainable #biofertilizers and #biostimulants.
