With a strong multidisciplinary consortium and innovative strategies, ToBeReaL is set to drive sustainable growth, unlock the potential of EU underdeveloped bioeconomy regions, and pave the way for flagship bio-based projects. Over the 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝟓 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬, we aim to: ✔ Map needs and barriers across bio-based value chains. ✔ Provide tailored support through Technical, Business, Regulatory, and Social innovation assistance. ✔ Foster collaborations among key stakeholders, from primary producers to policymakers. ✔ Empower bioeconomy projects to achieve flagship status, focusing on sustainability and scalability. 🌿 GO SUPRA BIOLIVA Project: Innovation in the Olive Sector 🌿 On September 19th, the GO SUPRA BIOLIVA project, an R&D initiative that promises to transform the olive sector, was presented at the National Agro-Food Technological Center of Extremadura (CTAEX). This project, where AZCATEC Tecnología e Ingeniería participates as a partner and coordinator, aims to obtain high-value-added bioactive compounds from olive by-products. These compounds have significant health benefits, opening new opportunities in various sectors. During the event, our colleague Andrés García Zamora, R&D and Business Development Manager at AZCATEC, highlighted the project’s innovation and the creation of a portable and modular pilot plant, which will process by-products directly at the mills, using green solvents to reduce environmental impact. 🌍 This project, funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) and supported by the Junta de Andalucía, reflects our strong commitment to sustainability and the development of innovative technologies that drive the circular economy in the olive sector. 🌱 Innovating sustainable agriculture: BiocSol, a UCLouvain spinoff! BioCsol, a spin-off from UCLouvain - Université catholique de Louvain, has successfully raised €5,2 million to develop next-generation biopesticides. The groundbreaking solution aims to protect crops while safeguarding the environment—a critical challenge for the agriculture of tomorrow. 🌍 Born in 2023 from Simon Caulier's research at UCLouvain, BioCsol harnesses the power of microorganisms to offer natural, eco-friendly alternatives to traditional chemical pesticides. This approach not only promotes biodiversity but also addresses the urgent need for sustainable agricultural practices. This result shows how much research that pushes the boundaries of knowledge can impact the world of tomorrow. This research was initiated within the Earth&Life Institute - https://lnkd.in/eGpkwhA2 , in the applied microbiology center, in the teams of Claude Bragard, Anne Legrève and Jacques Mahillon, with the support of Annika Gillis. 📣 We are very glad to announce that the #CBEJU proposal ♻ ReLEAF "Recycling Locally Produced Bio-Wastes to Ensure Affordability and Availability of Innovative Bio-Based Fertilisers" has been funded! 🖥️ The consortium is coordinated by Leitat Technological Center and counts on 17 experienced partners including RTOs and universities (Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna, RITTMO Agroenvironnement®, Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, #NOVA, Uniwersytet Rolniczy im. Hugona Kołłątaja w Krakowie, Research Institute of Organic Agriculture FiBL, ISQ), non-profit organisations (European Federation of Food Science and Technology, alchemia-nova #research and innovation), SMEs (#Ecopesce, AERIS Tecnologias Ambientales SL, Tecnopackaging), and large enterprises (Global Omnium, ANECOOP S. COOP, Timac Agro Italia S.p.A.) ℹ️ About the Project: The ReLEAF project is based on the advancement and widespread demonstration (in 5 technology demonstration sites) of a suite of extraction techniques to produce key BBF ingredients from waste streams prevalent across Europe – sewage sludge, fish processing waste and wastewater, mixed food waste, and agri-food residues. The formulation and production (in 2 sites) of cost-effective BBFs will address the serious issues of externalities (i.e., dependency on foreign supply chains (P and K), and petroleum-based resources (N)) from fertiliser production and use in European soils together with security of supply and waste valorisation. Investigations of the effectiveness and replicability of the BBFs within the varying climate conditions and soil ecosystems of 4 different field demonstration sites, in addition to co-creation activities, will allow for regional engagement with stakeholders to promote widespread acceptance, while industrial involvement will facilitate a rapid scale up and industrialisation of proposed technologies. ➡️ The project will start on 1st June.
