France's immense coral reef heritage, covering 58,000 square kilometers and scattered across the tropical strip of the three oceans: the Pacific, Indian and Atlantic, not forgetting the Mediterranean and Caribbean Seas, is a source of unexploited national wealth that should benefit young French people and French entrepreneurs, while respecting biodiversity through virtuous exploitation. With this in mind, we are developing the Ressources FRAnçaises CORalliennes - REFRACOR 2030 project, the fruit of more than three years' work. It is a simple and effective solution for NATIONAL SOVEREIGNTY that combine: virtuous exploitation, preservation of biodiversity and real sharing of benefits. WORLD OCEANS DAY - On this special day for all ocean lovers, we are delighted to report on the recent success of the OceanoScientific Coral Reef Expedition Corsica 2024, which marks the start of the test phase of our major REFRACOR 2030 Project. It's also an opportunity to thank all those who believe in our projects - which sometimes seem far-fetched or unfeasible, “impossible” - who support them and help us finance them. A VERY BIG THANK YOU! Without you, there would be no OceanoScientific Expeditions, no innovation in the fields in which we're opening up new avenues to promote the emergence of new professions in the Blue Economy; avenues all dedicated today to the virtuous and sustainable exploitation of the Ocean's riches through the use of genetics. #LOVETHEOCEAN Translated with DeepL.com (free version)
The OceanoScientific Coral Reefs Corsica Expedition 2024 was successfully carried out in southern Corsica from 25 May to 4 June in the Gulf of Porto-Vecchio, outside the Bonifacio Marine Park, with the Lagoon Catamarans 570 LOVE THE OCEAN and the SUZUKI FRANCE-powered Vanguard Marine RIB. The result is perfectly in line with the ambitious objectives: twelve different species of marine sponges were collected and their 32 small samples were conditioned to extract the DNA of these marine organisms with multiple properties, probably rich in molecules of interest for Health and Well-being. https://lnkd.in/dQaFFMi9 Day 7 of the Oceano Azul Gorringe Expedition sees us heading back out to the seamount having taken cover from The weather after our 3rd day of scientific dives. The forecast looks set fair for the coming days and the diving and landers teams are keen to get back in the water. Below is an extract from the Oceano Azuls Expedition diary. Despite the strong currents, we have concluded 36 dives with very diverse biodiversity samples collected. The sea is a striking dark blue, offering divers exceptional visibility over long distances. Large schools of amberjacks were spotted approaching the divers in great numbers. Large schools of wrasses and Anthias were found. Marine forests of macroalgae and a large diversity of algal species show a very healthy ecosystem. The absence of invasive species, which prevail in the mainland and in the archipelagos, is also a sign of a healthy ecosystem. Gorringe is at the intersection of the north Atlantic, Mediterranean, North Africa and the island archipelagos and show a unique combination of marine fauna and flora. The most curious observation on the dives were dozens of torpedo rays observed among the marine flora, stacked one on top of the other, with an uncommon size. A total of 15 seabirds visual surveys were performed with at least 12 species identified. For marine mammals, 20 surveys were performed and bottlenose dolphins, common dolphins and spotted dolphins, as well as a baleen whale, turtles, a shark and a swordfish registered. Baited remote underwater videos (BRUVs) were deployed in 5 stations (5 BRUV systems per station) with a total of 50h of video. Turtles, pilot fish, spotted dolphins and mahi-mahi have been recorded.

In mid-April, the Lagoon Catamarans 570 LOVE THE OCEAN, based in Port Saint Louis du Rhône, will set sail to the Kerkennah Islands and Bizerte to carry out the OceanoScientific Expedition Coral Reefs Tunisia 2024. Joint actions will be carried out with La Saison Bleue foundation, chaired by Rym Benzina Bourguiba, who is also godmother of LOVE THE OCEAN. The Kerkennahs were chosen because of their reputation for sponges. But the sponge resource has been drastically reduced by over-fishing, pollution and rising sea water temperatures. The aim is to recreate the right conditions for the sponge resource to develop once again Read more : https://lnkd.in/dU_FEdRS #LOVETHEOCEAN #OceanoScientific #SailForScience #EconomieBleue #BlueEconomy Yvan Griboval - Antoine Cousot - Lucie Cocquempot - Mairie de Port Saint Louis du Rhône - Port Navy Service - Yacht Club de Monaco - L'ECOLE DE L'ADN - Agence de l'eau Rhône Méditerranée Corse - BIOLOGIQUE RECHERCHE - Lise Charmel - EXSYMOL Monaco - FLYTRANS - KSB Company - Pure Ocean Fund - Vanguard Marine - SUZUKI FRANCE - PLASTIMO - ROM-arrangé - YACHTELEC - Maui Jim Sunglasses - PhytoQuant - Lyophilise & Co - Conserverie la belle-iloise

France is present in the tropical band of the three oceans: Pacific, Indian and Atlantic, and the sun never sets on our country, which has the second largest maritime area in the world (EEZ), not far behind the United States and well ahead of the Australians. Above all, France has the largest submarine area in the world, including 58,000 km² of coral reefs. In other words, an undervalued and priceless heritage. Particularly, an unexploited heritage! Or, at the very least, its biological resources are being exploited by foreign industrialists. NEW VIDEO: This was an exploratory dive near Vega in Antarctica. This part of the Weddell Sea hasn't seen many divers. We found a sloping bottom with no idea what to expect. The water was very clear, 30f degrees and there were icebergs in the area . At first the bottom looked muddy and absent of life. As we descended slowly done the slope we saw big gouges in the bottom from grounded icebergs at one time. There were so many Giant Isopods and Nematine, or giant sea worm that can grow to several metres long. These were all over the bottom along with seas stars and some other life. These Giant Isopods and sea worms are a good example of “polar gigantism”. This happens because the near-freezing waters hold more dissolved oxygen when compared to warmer waters, allowing organisms to grow to larger sizes. This is probably my favorite dive I've ever done in Antarctica out of the 56 dives i've currently done there. I really enjoyed seeing these Giant Isopods so active and what I thought was a muck bottom had so much life. Antarctica is a pretty incredible place with many diverse environments from walls to icebergs, rocky areas and muck bottoms. Enjoy the video, it's pretty raw video but I liked that! This was shot in February 2023. https://lnkd.in/gCnvhT-C #isopod #polargigantism #antarcticadiving #diveantarctica #giantisopod
