Preserving heritage assets for future generations demands efficient management strategies. Besides the ongoing need to shield artifacts from light, temperature shifts, humidity, and pollutants, other challenges have been added to the mix: climate change, theft and vandalism and dilemmas over whether and how museums can make more of their collections accessible to the public.
Digital technologies have emerged to play a key role in such management strategies in recent years, allowing museums to create virtual replicas of their objects and spaces as part of their management toolkit.
A prominent example of using 3D scanning technology for cultural preservation includes a project fuelled by Smithsonian Institution and FARO Technologies, a global leader in 3D measurement, which employs tools like laser arm and long-range laser scanners to capture museum objects in three dimensions accurately. Recently, FARO integrated Smithsonian 3D data into VR and AR systems, allowing people worldwide to view, interact with, and enjoy Smithsonian collection objects or scientific research sites in a fully immersive environment, regardless of location.
I explore other fascinating examples and use cases for digital twins technology in the museum and cultural space in my recent article: https://lnkd.in/eRMSEzj2#digitaltwins#spatialcomputing#culturalheritage#museums
Open to opportunities in the field of Archives, Museum, Curator-ship, Heritage, Digitisation, Data, Information, Knowledge, Records and Library Resources Management ...
Every organization especially government, in the 5IR should take advantage of the new technologies and there should be well developed policies, standards and best practices to ensure formality and good governance in all the technologies adopted....e.g. in the museums space, digitization should be brought forth in order to improve access to the collection even in wider communities.

Post N3: Animating Beaker Lady - A Digital Twin Journey
Continuing our exploration of digital twins, here's another exciting update!
In this demo, we're showcasing Beaker Lady, an archaeological forensic reconstruction from a female skull found in Scotland. This digital twin has been animated using Nvidia Omniverse Audio to Face and Unreal Engine 5.3.2, with level design crafted from Unreal Asset and Cargo.
Forensic Description:
Re-analysis of a Beaker Skeleton from Cist 3 at Upper Largie Quarry, Kilmartin
By Angela Boyle
A report on the cist and skeleton has already been published (Cook et al 2010). A sample of human femur produced a radiocarbon date of 2120-1780 cal BC. Isotope analysis of tooth enamel and collagen was carried out as part of the Beaker People Project, investigating diet and mobility during the Copper Age and Early Bronze Age in Britain and Ireland.
Background to the Re-analysis:
The skull had been partially reconstructed using various materials, making a complete record initially impossible. The skeleton, despite its poor condition, represents rare survival of prehistoric human bone in the area and will be a main exhibit at Kilmartin Museum after refurbishment. A facial reconstruction will be part of the new interpretation and display.
Methodology:
The skeleton was examined according to national guidelines. All bones were identified, and their condition recorded. Information on sex, age, and skeletal lesions was also documented.
Check out the test demo here:

The digital twin is inspired by and based on the remarkable work of Oscar Nilsson.
I'm working on my own implementation with customized metahumans, which will be part of a larger Forensic Archaeological Human Heritage Preservation Scientific project that's slowly taking shape. Feel free to like, comment, and ask questions—I'm happy to engage!
A shoutout to my team member, Fulvio Burolo, and the rest of our team, whose identities I'll reveal later.
Interested in financing a "one of a kind" project? My company would be thrilled to receive your support. Stay tuned for more updates!
