We started a longitudinal study to assess imaging biomarkers in relation to new bone formation and inflammatory characteristics in patients with axial spondyloarthritis and psoriatic arthritis together with COPECARE and the department of radiology of Herlev og Gentofte Hospital. Earlier studies (Refs: Willesen ST, et al. Ann Rheum Dis 2024; Jans LBO, et al. Radiology 2022) demonstrated the ability of #BoneMRI to detect structural changes in these populations, however this study investigates the effect of treatment with a pharmaceutical compound and the ability to detect structural bone changes in an early phase. 💉🩺Why do pre-filled syringes sometimes play hide-and-seek with meds? Researchers Vladimir Novak, David Mannes, and Margie O. from the Paul Scherrer Institut PSI, along with Dr. Christian Grünzweig from the ANAXAM - Technology transfer center for advanced manufacturing, collaborated with MSD to investigate the causes of clogging in prefilled #syringes (PFS). PFS are increasingly used for cancer treatment, for example, using monoclonal antibodies. Utilizing advanced neutron and synchrotron imaging techniques at PSI's #SwissLightSource #SLS and #SINQ neutron source – an ensemble that is unique in the 🌎 – the scientists discovered that fluctuations in pressure and temperature during transportation and storage lead to needle blockages due to deposits forming on the needle's metal surface and the formation of air bubbles. 🌡️Novak emphasized the significance of their findings, stating, 'The combination of neutron imaging and synchrotron X-ray tomography clearly demonstrates' the importance of maintaining an uninterrupted cold chain and stable pressure conditions when transporting and storing PFSs. Ophthopedia Update:Fluid Pathways in Age-Related Macular Degeneration Elucidated with Advanced Retinal Imaging: Subretinal (SRF) and intraretinal fluid (IRF) are tried and true biomarkers of neovascular activity in age-related macular degeneration (AMD) indicating the need for intravitreal anti-VEGF therapy. But it is becoming abundantly clear that the exudative pathways in AMD are much more complex.
