Today our portfolio company Canatu concluded a share exchange agreement with Lifeline SPAC I with the goal of forming a publicly listed company.   As Canatu’s first institutional investor back in 2010, this exit showcases what’s possible when investors truly partner for the long haul. At Inventure, we believe early-stage deep tech investors must truly understand the technology and opportunity to roll up our sleeves and to work alongside our portfolio companies through every challenge.   As we look towards Canatu becoming public, we have the same excitement about Canatu as we did in 2010. Canatu’s Carbon NanoBud technology is widely validated and commercialized. With a substantial war chest to fuel further innovation and growth, Canatu’s CNBs can potentially go into a variety of different industries in the years to come.   As a longtime chair and board member Sami Lampinen writes in our blog, “That’s where I’m probably the most excited — this exit isn’t an endpoint, it’s a new beginning of a long-term story. Here at Tydeninovaci (Innovation Week) we’re always putting innovation on the Czech stage and for 2025 VC’s will play a major role in the event so what can we learn from Lilium’s Collapse? Poor Management & Europe’s Innovation Bottlenecks Lilium, once a leader in eVTOL technology, faces insolvency. Beyond technical hurdles, its downfall stems from mismanagement and stifling EU policies. 1️⃣ Mismanagement: Leadership pursued a costly, complex design and burned through €1.3B without securing sustainable funding or contingency plans. 2️⃣ Financial Missteps: Lilium’s $3.3B SPAC valuation collapsed, with a 99% stock drop, reflecting poor milestone execution and investor confidence. 3️⃣ EU Bureaucracy: Excessive red tape blocked a €100M state loan, while fragmented regulations and limited infrastructure hindered progress. Key Lessons • Leaders must balance vision with sound execution and financial discipline. • The EU must streamline funding and regulations to foster innovation or risk losing its edge in global markets.
