In April, our grantee, the Center on Reinventing Public Education (CRPE), convened over 60 state and federal policymakers, edtech innovators, school system leaders, and advocates to discuss how AI can drive meaningful, positive change in education. In a new report, CRPE highlights key insights that emerged from this convening: how AI can enable needed changes in our schools, how current conditions in the edtech market act as barriers to closing equity gaps, and how policy and practice must adapt for lasting system change.

Edtech and digital literacy integration function differently for learners in adult foundational education. Emerging technologies and AI literacy will too. As we look to K12 and higher education for insights and inspiration, we should also remember that so much innovation can be found within. I'm really thankful to the Office of EdTech and OCTAE for letting us highlight some areas of potential in #AIforAdultEd, how we're working with adult educators teachers in #CampGPT and DRAW, and how this fits into a broader vision for expanded digital equity and resilience. This post includes examples and quotes from some amazing, dedicated educators Mary Gaston, Jayme Adelson-Goldstein, and Yeonjai Rah, PhD and is a reflection of work done by my amazing EdTech Center at World Education teammates like Jamie Harris, Jen Vanek, Jeff Goumas, Priyanka Sharma, and more!

Is our education system truly preparing children for the rapidly evolving world of tomorrow? I sit down with Dr. Phil Hickman, CEO of PlaBook Education and innovator at the forefront of educational technology, to explore how AI is transforming the way we approach learning and reading proficiency. We dive into the stark realities of current educational challenges, where a significant portion of children struggle with reading—a skill foundational to all future learning and success. We discuss how AI designed right can revolutionize reading education by not only enhancing the learning experience but also personalizing it, catering to the unique needs of each child. From there we highlight the criticality of reading proficiency into the future of work and how skills like critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving are becoming indispensable. We address the resistance to technological advancements in educational settings and how overcoming this resistance is key to equipping the next generation for a future filled with jobs that don't yet exist.

Teachers at this School are using AI-powered tools to save hours of marking time and provide personalised homework for every student. They say it is already making a significant impact by tailoring lessons to individual student needs. Teachers now receive detailed breakdowns of students' strengths and weaknesses, allowing them to better support learning and focus on what truly matters—helping students reach their full potential, so they say they are not only saving time but also bridging the gap in educational attainment! Imagine what this could mean for classrooms across the country. 💡 Could this be the future of education? Let's discuss! #EdTech #AIinEducation #FutureofLearning #TeacherSupport #PersonalisedLearning #LirOnline

LinkedIn Fam, I am proud and grateful to have been a participating Colorado statewide AI Steering Committee Member. I am even prouder of The Colorado Education Initiative for distilling the collective work of over 100 stakeholders to refine our state's Roadmap for AI in K-12 Education. I want to thank Rebecca Holmes, Patricia Quinones, and Karen Quanbeck, who provided impeccably organized and detailed collaboration spaces to make this work possible. As this work evolves, please continue to lean on this core membership for support, advice, and assistance to transform the learning throughout our state. Rebecca Holmes summarized the uniqueness of our AI roadmap, which begins with the belief that everyone, from students to seniors, should have access to AI resources. Furthermore, we must develop this educational roadmap collaboratively, with teachers and learners at the forefront. It also reflects the following beliefs: 🤖📚 Inclusive, responsible AI integration is crucial. 🤖📚 Local control & student input drive success. 🤖📚Tech can enhance learning & address inequities. 🤖📚Exciting innovations are happening across our school districts! Yes Beth Eakins great to chat all things maths and Multiply. Particularly interesting to talk about the merits of online learning. Recognition that face to face in room is not right for everyone, though it is for most. We have taken some aspects of being crunched in to online learning during the pandemic. But perhaps we have not kept enough for those individuals that preferred and thrived with online learning. Education mustn't be a one size fits all, but often is. FE is excellent at meeting the needs of individuals. It may be that we need to review what went well from the pandemic and that online learning may be part of the solution for absenteeism in some situations. What are peoples thoughts re online learning particularly in FE and adult education. Personally I love being in a room and feel that teaching and learning is a social construct and is more impactful when done face to face in person. But for some people it is better online synchronously or asynchronously. When I was involved in the Stoke opportunity area some students preferred online learning during the pandemic (not published). I am really interested in what people think and what the research shows. A great meeting with Martin Newton of MEI today where among other exciting Maths related topics, including the amazing FE Maths Challenges (more on that soon), we discussed how we harness the power of online learning. We, as I'm sure like many others out there, have such a positive shared experience of the power of online learning. Over the years we have watched it transform lives, and open doors that would otherwise be closed. Perhaps those of us, who love online learning, thought the pandemic would change, improve, fine tune online learning, making it more accessible for more students. Yet whilst we hear success stories, the article in The Guardian by Rosie Anfilogoff "Higher education was easily accessible to disabled people during Covid. Why are we being shut out now?" highlighted that there is so much more that we need to do. The last few months following and reading articles by the Forbes Writer and Pioneer of AI education Dan Fitzpatrick including his definition of why educational establishments find themselves in a "Liminal Space" has been truly insightful, and I for one, look forward to working with more like-minded educators. #stongertogether #education #onlinelearning #partnerships
