Future truck technicians get hands-on eTruck experience with FUSO eCanter ⚡🚚 Apprenticeship students at Cardiff and Vale College in Cardiff, Wales, are benefiting from real-life experience of working with electric vehicles, thanks to the college’s decision to purchase its own battery-operated FUSO Next Generation eCanter. Used by level 2 and 3 heavy vehicle apprenticeship students – the fully electric eCanter is helping the future technicians to prepare for their careers in the automotive industry. Supplied by local Dealer, Euro Commercials, the model is a 4C15e with a simple platform body and has a gross weight of 4.18 tonnes. Courses at the college are taught by Heavy Vehicle Lecturers Lee Whitaker and Ben Young. Ben said: “We have over 100 students who are on apprenticeships with everyone from haulage operators to local authorities, bus and coach companies, main dealers and even emergency services. Interesting move. With the challenges already faced by the collision repair industry, further hindering the ability to develop new technicians seems at first to be counterproductive. Then again, perhaps this gives more attention to the apprentice. Could this increase completion rates in apprenticeship to journeyperson advancement.
