A new Youth Work Curriculum recently published by KEKS, a network of organisations engaged in youth work, features content underpinned by the research of Marjon lecturer, Prof. Jon Ord. ⭐️ KEKS is a network for support and inspiration, addressing issues in youth work including policy and organisation, practice, stakeholders, youth workers, and policy. In conflict-prone and post-conflict settings, education becomes a powerful tool not just for learning, but for healing, rebuilding, and fostering acceptance. Conflict Sensitive Education (CSE) is crucial in these contexts, as it helps overcome intolerance, tension, and societal division by promoting mutual understanding and cooperation. An inspiring example comes from #Bosnia and Herzegovina, where initiatives like the "Bridges of Trust and Cooperation" project are transforming how divided communities interact. As Dijana Miljanović notes in an article that I published in 2017, "The initiative works through educational activities that aim to build shared relationships and cooperation between different ethnic groups in central Bosnia, creating an environment of understanding, acceptance, and peaceful coexistence." The project’s focus on joint workshops and #interactive #learning between students of different ethnicities is a testament to the powerful role education can play in breaking down barriers and fostering dialogue. ✨ Spotlight Series: Finalist 7 - Philippines ✨ Philippines’ Peace Education - Executive Order No. 570 (2006) Implemented in 2006, Executive Order No. 570 institutionalizes peace education within basic and teacher education in the Philippines, aiming to build a culture of peace. This policy equips students and educators with conflict resolution and nonviolence skills and integrates peace education into the formal curriculum. By fostering collaboration among government agencies, NGOs, and educational institutions, it has helped reduce school violence and empowered educators and students to address the root causes of conflict, promoting national unity and social cohesion. While the policy has faced some challenges in implementation it remains a pioneering initiative with significant potential. ✨ Key Impacts:   1. Educational Impact: Over 10,000 schools have adopted peace education modules, benefiting 12 million students annually. 2. Reduction in School-Based Violence: The Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) reported a 30% decrease in bullying and violence in schools that implemented peace education programs. 3. National Unity: By addressing the root causes of conflict and promoting peace education across various regions, including conflict-affected areas, the policy has strengthened national unity and social cohesion. Inclusive Education promotes and enables children with disabilities to receive an education, so they live productive lives. In September, the Department of Education - Papua New Guinea launched the Inclusive Education Policy which is dedicated towards ensuring that all children can learn and thrive, regardless of their abilities. The Australian Government provided support to finalise and launch the policy. Through Australia’s Partnerships for Improving Education (PIE) program, a team of dedicated Inclusive Education Outreach Officers are embedded into the Inclusive Education Resource Centres (IERCs) in Enga, Central, Sandaun and the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, helping schools and communities better support children with disabilities. PIE’s support also includes the provision of essential textbooks and resources, creating more inclusive, accessible learning environments for all. Australia is working closely with PNG to achieve a future where every child has the support and resources they need to succeed. #IDPD #InclusiveEducation #PNGAusPartnership
