These efforts aim to foster a shared understanding of EPR and champion improved waste management practices among all stakeholders. The Menara Peninsula Hotel continues its commitment to give positive impact to the environment by participating in the #zerofoodwaste movement. By partnering with FoodCycle Indonesia and DBS Bank Indonesia, the Menara Peninsula contributes to the Food Rescue Warrior campaign and has successfully donated over 100 kg of food to those in need. According to data from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Indonesia produced approximately 19.56 million tons of waste in 2023, with the majority, or 41.4%, coming from food waste. Through the Food Rescue Warrior program, the Menara Peninsula strives to address the issue of food surplus causing waste by ensuring responsible production and consumption patterns. This initiative aligns with the Menara Peninsula's commitment to SDGs, particularly Goal 12, focusing on responsible consumption and production. Since March 2024, this program has also contributed to reducing hunger levels in the community. As part of the country's 40% independent smallholders, Sinar Beradu Jaya faced challenges of environmental degradation and land exploitation issue. Partnering with Cargill Tropical Oil-Palm OneKalimantan, they embarked on a journey towards sustainable palm oil future. Cargill's partnership has guided Sinar Beradu Jaya in implementing sustainable palm oil plantation practices, leading to their RSPO certification in November 2023. Supported by various organizations like IDH, Fortasbi, Perkumpulan Petani Mitra Harapan and JDE Peet’s, this achievement marks a significant milestone. The farmers are now reaping the benefits of RSPO premiums, enhancing their well-being amidst a growing market demand for sustainable palm oil. This initiative not only secures a promising future for independent smallholders but also raises awareness about sustainable palm oil practices, thanks to Cargill's partnership. The “Sugar & Steam” project supports small-scale organic farmers in the Kulon Progo region of Indonesia. These farmers have experienced declining crop yields for many years due to extreme weather and poor land management practices. 🌱 Aliet Green, a top producer of organic food, understood that the problems the farmers faced were impacting its main product: coconut sugar. Today, they are working with 2,000 farmers, ensuring women farmers have equal access to training programmes, expanding on traditional opportunities. 🥥 The success of the “Sugar & Steam” project comes from the cooperation of different organisations, which brings together various experts. 🌾 The Bridge for Rice Farmers Towards Prosperity Almost 98% of Indonesia’s rice fields use subsidised fertiliser. With farmers struggling with decreasing subsidies and low productivity, Yara Indonesia launched the Outcome Based Model (OBM) program last year. This initiative addresses farmers' concerns about ineffective fertilisers by covering any cost difference if yields do not improve with our recommendations. The program encourages farmers to try Yara’s products, resulting in higher yields, better quality crops, and ultimately increasing their income and #prosperity. 🌿 Meet Hj Mamak, a prominent farmer in Bekasi, West Java, managing 40 hectares of land. Initially reliant on subsidised fertiliser, he joined the OBM program, recognising the need for complete plant nutrition. 👨🌾 “Most farmers want high yields with minimal agricultural inputs. I want to set an example for farmers around me that good quality agricultural inputs are necessary for achieving high and quality yields. That's why I accepted the offer of this OBM program.” 🌱 Despite challenges, Hj Mamak feels supported by the OBM program and plans to continue using Yara’s products, demonstrating its benefits for all farmers. 🌱 Strengthening Indonesia's Agricultural Future 🌱 The agricultural sector is a cornerstone of Indonesia, significantly contributing to our economy and ensuring national #foodsecurity. Yet, this vital sector grapples with numerous challenges that demand integrated solutions from various stakeholders. At Eratani, we recognize that advancing the agricultural sector requires close collaboration between the government, private industry, and educational institutions. Recently, we had the honor of meeting with the Department of Agriculture and Food Security of Maros Regency to explore potential collaborations to enhance farmers' welfare and strengthen #agriculture in Indonesia. During our meeting with the Head of the Department of Agriculture and Food Security of Maros Regency and his team, we engaged in detailed discussions about the challenges faced by farmers in the Maros District. We focused on practical and sustainable solutions, such as improving access to modern agricultural #technology, addressing resource constraints, and overcoming distribution barriers. Through this productive meeting, we identified significant opportunities for collaboration that could lead to positive changes for farmers in Maros Regency and beyond. We aim to foster a more productive, sustainable, and prosperous agricultural environment. How does the KAYU tree, Falcata, grow? Falcata matures at just seven years and grows to a diameter of 30 cm at chest height. The cultivation of this tree is underpinned by many small holder Indonesia farmers. In Indonesia, farmers with less than a hectare of growing space plant seedlings and manage them for seven years to maturity as a shade crop. And this translates into sustainable income for the farmers. A hectare of planted farmland is said to absorb approximately 40 tons of carbon dioxide in the seven years it takes to grow to maturity. In other words, the use of falcataria trees supports the livelihoods of Indonesian smallholder farmers and also leads to a reduction of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. #kayupackage #木製 #indonesia #japan #kayu #sustainable #package #bentobox
