Thanks for sharing Victoria Wratten. This advert is proof that so many organisations don't truly understand the role of an Assistant. They advertise it as an Executive Assistant Role. Yet they say it's a Junior Entry Level role. Then it isn't truly an Executive Assistant role. An EA role is a strategic business partnership with your Executive. It is rarely an entry level role. Lucy Brazier OBE launched the Global Skills Matrix a few years back to try and address this situation and it still needs to be addressed with many organisations and HR departments. As an recruiter you need to ensure you understand the role you are recruiting. Don't devalue the role because you don't understand it. Don't just throw a title to a role because you don't understand it. Lucy is more than happy to discuss this with HR Departments to ensure that companies understand the role of an Asisstant and the benefits they being to your organisation if you use and utilise them correctly. And value their contribution. I feel I work more as an EA now that I ever did Corporately because of the experience of running my own Business. The understanding of the decision making. Making decisions when it's your own money makes you view things differently. It's easy to spend money when its not yours! Companies. Do better. Do better for your Assistants. Sign up your organisation to Executive and Personal Assistants Association and Executive Support Media and ensure you are developing your Assistant community. Allow them to be the best they can be and development them through the roles. You'd do this for your HR Team. Your Marketing Team. Why not your Assistants? One of the reasons I chose to work for myself as a Freelance Assistant is because of scenarios just like this. (That and the commute!). Oh and the fact is advertised a competitive salary is just a whole other post. If its that competitive state it!! Don't waste my time or yours.

Most times we know the Remedy to our problems but the force to push towards the solution is hard. Does it mean we should quit? Of course not 🚫 We all know how it feels trying to fix endless tasks, only to realize there are still more left undone that can cause serious burnout. Now, imagine having someone who takes those time-draining tasks off your plate, letting your mind be at rest. let's call it a shoulder to lean on. That’s where an Administrative helper comes in. Give to caesar what belongs to caesar give to a virtual assistant : managing everything from organizing your inbox to scheduling meetings, handling customer service, conducting research, and even managing your database cause it's their area of expertise. By Christmas 2018, she’d left for another position. Disappointment doesn’t even begin to describe it. A few years later, I thought I’d found the perfect social media assistant—until she left for a better-paying offer after being introduced to a client-turned-friend. After years of training, hiring, scaling up, and scaling down, I came across Angelina. She’d emailed her CV, but at the time, I already had an assistant. I offered her a three-month admin role to help clear my inboxes (I had three, and chaos was brewing!). A year later, her name popped back into my mind during a moment of clarity. I searched through old emails to find her contact details—and the rest is history! Building a great team takes time, effort, and trust. It’s not about hiring solely on skills. Attitude, shared values, strong ethics, and a hunger to learn matter so much more. Skills can be taught; passion and loyalty cannot.
