The 2024 "Dotcoms to Watch" session at the Academic Publishing in Europe (#APE24) conference earlier this year, hosted by Park 56's Martijn Roelandse on behalf of STM featured innovative startups tackling key challenges in scholarly publishing. Presenters from Clear Skies, Global Campus, Ludenso, Signals, and Visual Abstract addressed topics such as research integrity, combating papermills, peer reviewer identification and matchmaking, and graphical abstracts. Their extended presentations are now available in IOS Press' Information Services & Use. Many thanks to Berlin Institute for Scholarly Publishing (BISP) for organising the event and to Astrid Engelen-Visser for spearheading the publication of the forthcoming issue. Enjoy exploring them! https://lnkd.in/edEu-wPV

Did You Know? The foundation of the open-access movement was laid in the early 2000s through three key declarations that outlined the principles and goals of open-access publishing: The Budapest Open Access Initiative (Feb 2002) The Bethesda Statement on Open Access Publishing (Jun 2003) The Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge (Oct 2003) These milestones defined open access as unrestricted online access to scholarly research, transforming how knowledge is shared globally. . . . #OpenAccess #ScholarlyPublishing #AcademicResearch #OpenScience #ResearchInnovation #CureusJournals

Reimagine Libraries. Sparking Collaboration for Innovation to Tackle Libraries’ 21st Century Challenges. I'm thrilled to have co-authored this LibrarIN policy brief with Ernesto Solano and Luis Rubalcaba Universidad de Alcalá, and Elena Silvestrini The Lisbon Council. Libraries are much more than book archives, they are cultural institutions that play a key-role in social inclusion and cohesion. They create a sense of belonging, build shared identities, promote cultural awareness and historical reflection, improving people’s well-being and contributing to sustainable development and growth at all levels. Libraries as public services are facing European challenges of the 21st century. Many of these challenges are shared with museums, galleries and other cultural institutions, as the OECD - OCDE UNESCO, and library associations like LIBER Europe have declared recently. Libraries are tasked to deliver high-quality public services and improved capacity to help deal with societal challenges. In the case of libraries, these challenges are met with an increasing demand for innovation. Libraries are in need of efficient strategies, policies and practices to enhance their innovative performance. This LibrarIN Horizon Europe Project policy brief presents evidence-based recommendations to spark collaboration for a new generation of European libraries. As a follow-up on the report 'Strengthening Support for Diamond Open Access in the Netherlands', I'm glad to see this taking off: ‘Project Diamond #OpenAccess in the Netherlands’ by the Universiteiten van Nederland and Dutch University Libraries (UKB). Project aims: 1. Establish a national expertise centre for diamond open access (DOA) 2. Develop a national strategy with unified commitments to local, national and international investment in DOA infrastructure and publishing, which enables these actors to focus on innovation and a long-term publishing strategy. 3. Develop a monitoring system for DOA 2022/2023 report: https://lnkd.in/eCjDNtgy News item: https://lnkd.in/egnY2pBM

Is there a better way to celebrate #OpenAccessWeek than to attend #LundOnline2024? Roughly a year ago, as the National Library of Sweden presented the new national guidelines for Open Science, one the speakers pointed out that it's time to stop talking about open science and start doing open science. I agree - looking forward to start doing open science and use SSE's excellence to strengthen Sweden’s competitiveness through research. You can read all of SSE's OA articles at the SSE Research Hub - research.hhs.se

Strong roots, broad crown: New graphic of the CD model 11.06.2024: The research question of a company and the expertise of a scientist are the two roots of a #CDLab or #JRCentre. From this grows a whole tree of research work that bears many fruits: publications and patents, innovations, careers of young scientists and the strengthening of Austria as a business location. A new CDG graphic illustrates this development: Our "CDG tree", to be found here in full size: https://lnkd.in/dbDRURBy (Graphic: Alexandra Reidinger Grafik Design) #KnowledgeCreatesValue #science #research
