⚕️An incredible statistic: on average a #Nurse lasts for only 5 years in their profession- with considerable loss on: - the huge cost of training ❌ - the loss in access & services🚷 - reduced health & economic gains📛 The solutions are simple #Invest in the long-term recurrent cost of attracting, recruiting, and retaining our #Nurses & #HealthWorkers where they are needed … and in the #DecentWork, protections, career progression & scopes of practice, pay, & safe working conditions to keep them there💙 #InvestInHealthWorkers
Empowering nurses in Greece 💙 Today, the WHO Office on Quality of Care and Patient Safety in Athens, in collaboration with the WHO Health Workforce and Service Delivery (HWD) team, hosted the “Mentorship Focus Group” at the Eugenides Foundation as part of the HEALTH-IQ project. The event brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including representatives from the Hellenic Regulatory Body of Nurses, the Hellenic Nursing Student Association, early career nurses, nurse educators, and clinical and academic mentors. Its primary objective was to facilitate the exchange of insights, share experiences, and generate actionable recommendations to enhance mentorship practices, with an emphasis on empowering nursing students and early career nurses. 👩⚕️👨⚕️ This workshop marks a significant step forward in improving healthcare standards in Greece. It aims to support the development of a comprehensive mentorship toolkit tailored to the unique needs of nursing students, early career nurses, and their mentors, ultimately strengthening the healthcare workforce. 🩺 Our goal? To establish a robust system where quality of patient care, safety, and access are a priority. Together, we’re working towards a future where healthcare quality is measurable, actionable, and focused on delivering equitable care. #WHOGreece #AthensQoCOffice #HealthIQ WHO Regional Office for Europe JOAO BREDA Christos Triantafyllou Anastasia Ntikoudi Stefanie Fernandes Heather Wilson Margrieta Langins
