The upcoming major events of mining (1) 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 (𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗖) as Australia's largest and most influential mining event, IMARC, late October, and (2) 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 by the Colorado State University, early November, led me to write a little bit about the importance of mining wastes and tailings: *𝗔 𝗛𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆* It is estimated that tailings, as residual materials left after minerals are extracted from ore, could rise to about 20 billion tons by 2025. While traditionally viewed as waste, they contain valuable minerals like copper, gold, silver, and rare earth elements, making them a promising target for reprocessing efforts. Recent technological advancements are unlocking the potential of these tailings, turning them into a resource that supports the circular economy. Reprocessing not only recovers valuable minerals but also mitigates environmental risks by reducing the volume of waste stored in tailings dams. This shift aligns with the rising demand for minerals critical to renewable energy technologies and infrastructure, such as lithium, cobalt, and copper, which are essential for batteries, solar panels, and electric vehicles. It is a great opportunity to see the promising trend in mining companies that are increasingly investing in tailings reclamation projects to extract these valuable elements while addressing environmental concerns. #MiningInnovation #TailingsManagement #MineWasteRecovery #SustainableMining #CircularEconomy #GreenMining #ResourceRecovery #TailingsReprocessing #CriticalMinerals #ZeroWasteMining #MiningSustainability #WastToValue #MiningConference
