Raising distribution entry requirements. All attention has been on the transmission queue, but what is going on with distribution? (And how do they align is really the million dollar & still quite unanswered question for me..) Some key points to highlight from Energy Networks Association (ENA)'s webinar just now on raising entry requirements for NEW applications to DNOs: ⚡ Two main proposals in the works on strengthening entry requirements re land: (A) HoTs to accompany a letter of authority or (B) a 36-month option agreement. ⚡ A much more detailed site diagram which shows layout vs just a red line boundary. ⚡ A more comprehensive project plan for the entire project lifecycle. ⚡ Additional info on the G99 form (confess as a lawyer, not sure how game changing these extra bits on the form will be - anyone who knows better, do let me know). ⚡ No substantive changes to the current ENA document re allowable changes post application going in. ❗ Next steps: upcoming changes will be published in November 2024, with changes to be implemented from January 2025. The U.S. Department of Energy Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO) released new resources for Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) applicants which include a step –by-step tutorial and general funding opportunity FAQs. The intent of the FOA resources is to: ✅Provide prospective FOA applicants with background and general guidance for applying for BETO’s financial assistance awards ✅Allow applicants to become familiar with sections of the FOA and, specifically, which FOAs are unique to a specific research area ✅Help applicants prioritize which sections to review to assess if a particular FOA is appropriate for them, and ✅Highlight sections within a FOA to assist applicants to meet designated deadlines and address all FOA requirements. The European Commission has launched the Innovation Fund 2024 Call and Battery calls, with a total budget of €3.4 billion.  The general call for net-zero technologies worth €2.4 billion (IF24 Call) supports decarbonisation projects of different scale, as well as projects focusing on the manufacturing of components for renewable energy, energy storage, heat pumps, and hydrogen production, and pilots. 📣 In July 2023 we announced plans to launch joint funding programs. These programs focus on supporting the development of new bio-based fuels, chemicals, and materials as well as the development of more efficient biorefinery processes. The joint funding programs build on the priorities and actions identified in the roadmap and the webinar. 🇮🇳🇪🇺One program is a call from the European Union on “the development of smart concepts of integrated energy driven bio-refineries for co-production of advanced biofuels, bio-chemicals, and bio-materials.” and India has already decided to co-fund. How will the Fuel of the Future bill impact Brazil’s energy industry? The law, that should be voted on the Senate soon, was created to encourage the production and use of sustainable fuels. Among the proposals are goals for an increase in the mixture of ethanol in gasoline and targets for the use of biomethane and SAF.
