We have an employee-led menopause support group that brings people from across our organisation together to share experiences of menopause in a supportive way. The group aim to help our employees feel comfortable to have open conversations about menopause. We recently held an interactive and informative online workshop, where we were joined by My Menopause Centre’s Dr Clare Spencer. The key topics discussed were: - The menopause transition stages and symptoms - How and why it affects mood and cognition - Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), exploring how it works and easy exercises to try - The power of mindfulness and meditation, with practical tips Thank you to all who joined us at the workshop. #MenopauseAwareness #EmployeeSupport #DiversityAndInclusion

Why does neurodiversity matter in the context of menopause? 🤔 Because menopause is a neurological transition point, a time when the brain undergoes structural and functional re-organisation due to hormonal changes. We know that people assigned female at birth tend to have better wellbeing when their oestrogen levels are higher. Low levels of oestrogen can have an effect on cortisol, the stress hormone, which means we are more reactive to stress during menopause and can struggle to cope. 🤯 Menopause symptoms are often more severe in people with poorer physical and mental health and life trauma. Essentially, it’s a vulnerable time for anyone with neurological differences. 🧠

Perimenopause, menopause and hormonal impacts on women's mental health. Raising the awareness!!! Progressing the discussion! Improving clinical care! Mood and cognitive symptoms tend to be one of the first reported changes in perimenopause. How can psychologists help? Thorough assessments, trained in being menopause and hormone aware, working with identity, assisting with symptom relief to improve wellbeing. Collaborating with medical teams. I am excited to have been invited to present this poster on the role of psychologists in menopause work at the IMS World Menopause Congress. So fairly essential then….. This is why so many of us suffer during peri/menopause with issues regarding our personality, emotions, mental acuity/brain fog, and one of the most common anxiety. Even hot flushes are due to a lack of oestrogen in the brain, as one of its many functions within the brain is helping to support our temperature regulation system. It isn’t just about ‘boobs & tubes’, the brain and the gut communicate, but so do the brain and the ovaries.
