25th April 2024 LOCAL EXHAUST VENTILATION | POOR DESIGN CAN LEAD TO INEFFECIENCY OF LEV 𝐒𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐓𝐎𝐃𝐀𝐘!! ✒ A poorly designed local exhaust ventilation (LEV) system can lead to ineffective capture and containment of airborne contaminants, potentially exposing workers to health hazards. 𝐈𝐧𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 are common issue associated with poor LEV design. ✒ The hood may be improperly sized, shaped, or positioned relative to the contaminant source, resulting in incomplete capture of airborne pollutants. This can lead to escape of contaminants into the workplace air and increased worker exposure. Now that we are very much into the southern hemisphere winter, temperatures are noticeably lower. This understandably gives rise to the temptation to switch off your HVAC system, or to reduce its running hours, and thereby save money on your energy bills. Before you reach for the off switch, it’s worth remembering that your HVAC is not only about reducing ambient temperatures. It also circulates the air – thereby improving its quality and reducing the health risks associated with pollution and allergens. Your HVAC also cuts humidity levels, making the interior of your premises feel more comfortable. However, it’s worth remembering that running your HVAC during periods extremely low temperatures (which are admittedly rare in most parts of South Africa) can cause damage. A quick fix like cutting out drywall and spraying chemicals for a remediation project won’t improve your health. Mold is microscopic - 250,000 spores can fit on a pinhead. By the time you see it, particles will have already spread throughout your home and HVAC system. You need a holistic approach to truly understand what's growing behind your walls, how it affects air quality, and the extent of the problem. This is where our company shines. Using scientific data, we provide effective remediation, ensuring your investment is worthwhile. Don't waste time and money on ineffective solutions. Make sure you choose comprehensive, data-driven remediation for a healthier home.
