Last week, staff and volunteers at PCH received an extra dose of Christmas cheer when Tony Galati, Frankie Galati, and Tony Sands supported PCHF’s partner café, Little Lion, to deliver some festive treats. 🎁🍒 While they were here, they also showed their support for the #PCHFRingTheBell challenge — a heartfelt way to honour the kids who’ve rung the bell to mark the end of their cancer treatment, those still fighting for the chance, and the ones who may never get that moment. 💙 It’s not too late to get into the spirit of giving. If you can, please donate to the PCHF Christmas Appeal to support West Aussie kids fighting cancer: www.pchf.org.au/donate 🎄 You can also get involved by filming your own #PCHFRingTheBell moment, sharing, or tagging friends and colleagues. September will be #childhoodcancerawarenessmonth and I am asking all of my connections this year try to do something, find a local charity or a national charity to donate to. Reach out to a hospital that has a Pediatric Cancer Wing and donate a lunch or anything to them. What makes childhood cancer different is because the average adult is diagnosed with cancer at age 65, children are diagnosed at age 6. That different causes two things that your normal adult will not face. 1. A child who survives cancer has a 35% chance of developing a secondary cancer within 20 years from their treatment using the numbers above would mean a childhood cancer survivor could be battling cancer again at 36 where the adult, if lucky makes it would be 85 2. A child who survives cancer has a 96% chance of developing a serious health issue by the time they turn 50 from their treatments. Again using the numbers above an adult survivor would be 109 years old. Give these children a fighting chance to have the same life an adult has, give them an opportunity to enjoy a life, make mistakes, raise a family without fear. Give this young man who is now 4 1/2 years in remission and millions of kids like him that same opportunities you where given to succeed and fail in Life. #childhoodcancerawareness

At ISS, we’re continuing to support Movember and supporting discussions on men’s health, particularly around prostate and testicular cancer. More than 13,000 men died from prostate cancer in 2023 and the disease is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men in the UK. By contrast, the odds of survival for men with testicular cancer are good — at greater than 95% — but for some men, side effects from cancer mean their quality of life is severely compromised. Too many men are dying too young from largely preventable causes. Help is out there, and it is important to get tested. That’s why we’re raising money to fund life-saving research, and advocating for more action on improving men’s health.
