🚢 How can Denmark and North America collaborate on developing a green maritime and port industry? This was the main topic during yesterday's panel discussion on our Green Maritime & Port Alliance at the 2024 Port of the Future Conference in Houston.   For a full hour, the conference's main stage was dedicated to discussing the Green Maritime & Port Alliance. Joined by Jesper Raakjær of Port of Aalborg and Vesa Koivumaa of Blue Sky Maritime Coalition, our Head of Energy, Morten Siem Lynge, shared challenges with decarbonizing the sector and the pivotal role that ports play in the global maritime industry's energy transition.   Ports serve as central load centers between land and sea, possessing the infrastructure and grid connectivity to serve as hubs for green power generation, storage, and distribution. However, unlocking ports' full potential requires public and private collaboration across borders.   As leading maritime nations, Denmark and the US share a common commitment to accelerate the green transition of ports. And so, the Green Maritime & Port Alliance seeks to facilitate knowledge-sharing and partnership opportunities between Danish and American maritime companies and ports to create sustainable solutions to joint challenges. 📢Fellow ENCLUDEr Vanja Djinlev organised on 24 May a roundtable at the GREDIT conference in Skopje.  📍The session was a discussion and feedback session on the outcomes of four EU funded projects ( ENCLUDE EC² - Clean Energy Transition EnergyPROSPECTS DIALOGUES Project ) on energy citizenship. 📌The recommendations of the projects have been synthesized in a joint policy brief entitled “Energy Citizenship in the Making”. 🖌️The aim of this session was to understand the relevance of such a policy orientation for the energy transition in the Balkan region. 🔗https://lnkd.in/ddQ8r7jY #encludeproject #energycitizenship

𝐆𝐁 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲...𝐨𝐧 𝐚 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐥 It was great to spend time with Chair of Great British Energy Juergen Maier CBE FRS FREng this morning, hearing first hand his perspectives on GBE’s scope, ambition and challenges. I was able to share details about the Chamber, our work on behalf of members and role in the regional economic partnership. And to reinforce that the globally unique energy eco-system in the North-east of Scotland is already progressing the transition agenda and stands ready to support GBE in turbocharging our future energy ambitions. Of course, I caveated this by discussing the potential ‘gap’ that was being caused by current oil & gas fiscal policy and rhetoric that risks seeing the capital, people, supply chain businesses and equipment needed to accelerate clean energy projects in the North Sea being lost overseas or perhaps altogether. We discussed our submission to the Great British Energy Bill Call for Written Evidence and the work being led by British Chambers of Commerce on securing the long-term future for North Sea energy production. I reiterated that the AGCC team is here to support GBE in any way we can. From convening the supply chain to communicating key messages through our media channels. From sector research to providing collateral to attract staff to relocate here. And from playing a role in inward investment activity to advising on future office accommodation. On the latter point, I was delighted to hear Juergen confirm his commitment to support our efforts to reenergise and repopulate Aberdeen city centre by locating the GBE HQ there. This funding will enable us to deepen the fairway from 9.3 to 12.8 meters, accommodating larger vessels and enhancing our competitiveness in the global trade logistics. This development is a game-changer for our port, positioning us as a critical hub within the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). 2. Offshore Wind Expansion: With over 10 GW of offshore wind already booked for installation out of Port Esbjerg by 2029, we play a pivotal role in the green transition for our neighbors. Our strategic location allows us to facilitate wind farm expansions and contribute significantly to Europe's renewable energy goals. 3. Dual-Use Facility: Port Esbjerg's versatility extends beyond wind energy. We are both a military hub and a vital part of the TEN-T network. Our commitment to quadrupling RoRo calls over the next decade demonstrates our dedication to efficient logistics and seamless connectivity. 4. Global Trade: The American Continent, one of Denmark's largest export markets, relies on Port Esbjerg. Our deepened fairway positions us to efficiently ship modular goods across the Atlantic, contributing to the increase of trade between Europe and the USA. 🌟Attending the European Transport Network Conference is not just an opportunity—it's a strategic imperative for Port Esbjerg. One of the most impactful engagements I have had this year was moderating a panel which included: Lapo Pistelli Leonardo Meeus Sentle Nell and Christian Egenhofer. The aim of the discussion was to foster collaboration between industry, academia and policy experts focusing on addressing the specific challenges and opportunities related to sustainable energy transition in Africa. The main takeaways for me: - Europe and Africa are neighbors and they’re complementary in terms of energy - The world is transitioning from extracted minerals as the key resource and natural resources and infrastructure (renewables, energy storage etc) are the key minerals through innovation - Good regulatory practices fosters increased participation of the private sector through investment in the energy transition. - Africa does not want to be used! It is time we used a pragmatic approach for shared prosperity. Thank you School of Transnational Governance for the invitation!
