ChangeNOW summit is political, but in the right way. The summit will start tomorrow (25th) in paris and it has a very interesting mix of #business, #research, NGOs and #politics that make it especially interesting. What I find specific about changeNow is how it addresses all these issues without being greenwashingy or too sympathetic towards businesses and politicians. This year, there will be a debate on #sustainability on the 27th between the french politicians of all parties applying for the European elections and I think this is a great thing. The summit is being political but in the right way: not favoring any specific side but putting everyone in front of their responsibility for the future.

💡 NEW AIES FOCUS 💡 📄 The recent #AIES Focus publication titled “Fair Elections - Fair Democracies? The information-democracy nexus” by Ursula Werther-Pietsch emphasises the significance of #mediaProfessionals and #pressFreedom in an era where information, media, and democracy is interwoven and as such requires support and protection. Following the observation of the recent #WorldPressFreedom day, it is vital to note the global decline of media freedom spanning from the year 2023 and 2024. According to the World Press Freedom Index, 11 out of the 27 EU Member States including Austria, Italy, Finland, France and Ireland experienced a decline in press freedom. This highlights the need for urgent assessment of #free and #independent media to ensure open dialogues in society, global information integrity, and a healthy information ecosystem that promotes democracy. 🔗 More information and the article for download can be found at https://t.ly/tTMeS

Will EU politicians go back on the environmental promises they've made since 2020, to satisfy voters ahead of the European Parliament elections? This is the prospect that Europe’s impact community fears, as the Business for a Better Tomorrow coalition publish an open letter calling for politicians to stand their ground on the policies proposed in the Green Deal. However, with extensive lobbying from frustrated farmers, far-right groups and large businesses, we are yet to see whether EU politicians will give in to the pressure. Important and urgent: Please #useyourvote in the European elections 🇪🇺💚 The future of a livable planet and human rights are at stake. This vote isn't about national issues, it's about giving your voice to things that we can only tackle by being more united, despite our differences. Don't believe the populists who offer too simplistic solutions to complex challenges. Be aware that many right-wing parties are currently working against democracy and equal rights for all, in addition to denying the ecological emergency. Sadly, so do some centre-right parties (but let's face it, most have moved considerably further to the right). I have already voted by postal vote. Regular elections will be held across the European Union between 6 and 9 June 2024. High energy prices and ambitious #energytransition goals have taken center stage in #European #politics. An expected swing to the right in June’s European Parliament #elections has already sparked heated debates on #EU #climate #policy. Right-of-center MEPs want to slow down the EU’s front-running on the #GreenDeal, with cost-of-living warnings about the proposed 2040 targets playing well with voters. #spgci #spglobal #EU #elections
