Pilot projects, led by CICT in collaboration with governments and industry bodies, indicate a shift towards a five-day work week, signaling a potential game-changer for industry culture and productivity. RMIT University's interim report highlights overwhelming worker support for this change, emphasizing the need for a balanced work-life schedule. Positive outcomes from pilot projects, like the Mulgoa Road Upgrade Stage 1, demonstrate minimal impact on productivity and pay, with workers reporting better well-being and satisfaction. This shift could address the industry's skills shortage and boost productivity in the long run. #Construction #WorkLifeBalance #Productivity #ADP #HR

All excellent points on creating a positive atmosphere and environment for workplace success across all age groups. Under #4 how about adding, first, don't periodically lay off your 50+ workers thinking you're going to save money and boost your stock price and/or save operating costs in the short term, and pension liability in the long run. The #facman Facilities industry is a prime example of one challenged both by an aging workforce and the value of knowledge management. Years of relationships honed and nurtured over years cannot be replaced in a month with cheaper, younger workers. #Trust takes time and effort to develop and RIFs of your most experienced workers are no way to preserve it. https://lnkd.in/eDuBnAPr On the flip side, everyone has to be open and aware of skill development requirements and work collaboratively to ensure that skills--regardless of physical age, meet and are aligned with ongoing needs. At Aleto, we have a dedicated professional development budget and love to hire "life-long learners", those who are curious, self-motivated, and genuinely interested in skill development. Looks like the construction industry's about to get a bit of a nudge—or a full-on shove—towards a five-day work week 👷 Cheers to the Construction Industry Culture Taskforce, along with mates in the NSW and Victorian governments and the Australian Constructors Association. They’re all in on booting the six-day slog to the kerb. And shocker—workers are actually keen on having a weekend! 🍻 A report from RMIT University is waving a big flag showing a hefty chunk of the workforce ready to throw a party over this change. Click here to read more: https://lnkd.in/gFdhs-rv But here's the million-dollar question for the bosses: does chopping a day off mean chopping down productivity, or could this actually be the magic potion for a happier, more switched-on team? With the skills shortage already gnawing at budgets and deadlines like a hungry rat, it’s going to be a popcorn-worthy show to see how this plays out. We’d love to hear your thoughts - drop a YAY or NAY to the five-day work week for construction works in the comments below 👇 #construction #workforce #insights #employees #futureofwork

At Dixons, we have been focusing on prioritising flexibility for our teachers to support greater work life harmony. As a result, we are excited to launch our new flexible working plan which will come into effect in the next academic year (24 / 25) and includes working towards a nine-day fortnight for teachers. We want to be bold in our approach. Our ambition is for teachers to be afforded the same flexibility that’s available in many other sectors and now even expected in the post pandemic world. Given the nature of teaching, we know that the scale of this flexibility will not always match what others offer outside the sector, but making these changes will go a long way in making a difference. Recently, Joel Kenyon, Head of Science, Dixons Croxteth Academy, spoke to Teacher Talks Radio about what this new working pattern actually means for teachers.
