In our#womenforAI series, we introduce women who are passionate about AI.
This time, we asked Lisa Steinhauser what fascinates her about artificial intelligence. Lisa is our new Junior Project Manager for Quantum Technologies and is mainly active at Hamburg Quantum Innovation Capital (hqic). Previously, she worked as a web developer and product manager. She also volunteers, having been involved with organizations like proTechnicale and as a mentor at TechLabs, advocating for women in tech and entrepreneurship.
And that's her response:
"What fascinates me most about artificial intelligence is not just the result – intelligent systems capable of learning and reacting in incredible ways – but also the journey to get there. Humanity has developed intelligence over millennia, biologically and culturally, but now we are able to create something similar with algorithms and data, without fully understanding the deepest mysteries of human thought. AI shows us that intelligence isn't exclusively a human domain – it’s about patterns, structures, and contexts that we can increasingly mimic and improve. What’s exciting is that we, as humans, must redefine ourselves: What does it mean to be human when machines are also capable of intelligent behavior? AI forces us to reflect on our own limitations, our nature, and the essence of humanity."

Leveraging AI for Environmental Protection: Meta's Latest OpenDAC Initiative
Direct Air Capture (DAC), involving the extraction of carbon dioxide directly from the atmosphere, is widely recognized as a crucial tool in combating climate change. Despite its potential, widespread implementation of DAC has been hindered by the high cost of capture. Overcoming this barrier hinges on the discovery of novel adsorbents—materials that absorb carbon dioxide from the air—and scaling up DAC operations.
Meta has introduced the OpenDAC 2023 (ODAC23) dataset to train artificial intelligence models. ODAC23 comprises nearly 40 million Density Functional Theory (DFT) computational results from 170,000 DFT relaxation calculations, focusing on the adsorption of carbon dioxide and water by Metal-Organic Framework (MOF) materials. Meta has also released benchmark machine learning models trained on this dataset. With the power of AI, it is believed that humanity will soon identify new adsorbents, reducing carbon dioxide emissions in nature.

Quantum computing is here, it's here to stay, but businesses are not leveraging the technology. William Hurley (Whurley) and his team at Strangeworks are fixing that.
Through the use of large language models, they’re making quantum computing accessible to anyone, regardless of coding expertise. Truly breakthrough technology, and we were all blown away by the insights William shared.
That was just one highlight of the first day of the third AI Experience. Together with our group of 20 seasoned entrepreneurs and investors from the Netherlands and Germany, organized by ai.nl - The AI Group / Endeit Capital / Shift Happens, we’re on an incredible journey through Austin, Texas, and San Francisco, learning firsthand about the cutting-edge innovations shaping our future.
We kicked off the day at the University of Texas, diving deep into immersive technologies and experiences, with thought-provoking talks from Meta on Immersive Technologies as well as various sessions on ethical AI, organizing the SXSW conference and robotics.
From there, we headed to the Miro offices, where Thomas delivered a fantastic presentation on how organizations can transform into AI-first companies within just one year—a real game-changer for those of us looking to stay ahead of the curve.
Capital, tech, and the future are shifting fast, and it’s exciting to experience it firsthand with Martijn Hamann, Martijn Kole, Job van den Berg and all our participants.
