#Cheshire’s “world class” tourism gems, including two in #Chester, have again proved their value to the economy after being named amongst England’s most popular paid visitor attractions. Visit England’s newly published 2023 Annual Attractions Survey also reveals that as well as the national success, Cheshire’s much-loved attractions account for almost half of the North West’s top 20 paid visitor attractions. Chester Zoo is ranked third in the table, with 1,835,374 visitors alone in 2023 – a six per cent annual rise. Only the Tower of London and Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew rank higher. It is joined in the table by Tatton Park which was ranked 20th after seeing 720,000 people – a two per cent annual rise - flock to the historic estate in Knutsford. It’s annoyingly simple. The following things are true: 1. The overwhelming majority of Nevada’s visitors stay in the big city gateways 🎰🌆 2. If those visitors stay in the gateways, then rural Nevadan destinations miss out on a slice of the tourism pie 🥧 3. Travelers won’t visit somewhere if they don’t think there’s anything to do there 🗺️ The plan: > Build out a rich offering of local experiences in rural destinations 🚁🛶🏜️ > Digitise that offering so travelers can find out about them 🌐 > Advertise these unique cultural/nature experiences, both to travellers already in Nevada AND before they get there 📣 > Give visitors a reason to plan time outside the gateways before they arrive, and spend more time in rural areas when they’re there 🛣️ Lots of DMOs still think hotels first. But people don’t choose a destination to visit a hotel. They choose a destination for the things they’ll experience there. Speaking with forward-thinking DMOs like Nevada Division of Tourism (Travel Nevada) who GET this is, hands down, the most rewarding part of my job 🧡⛰️
