Our ski resorts becoming theme parks Otaku Ma ski resort in the French Pyrenees has rebranded itself Otaku amplas or Otakon beach on social media to poke fun at. The lack of snow record high temperature for 2023 across the globe and a lack of snowfall since the beginning of the season has led this station to tap into year round activities to attract tourists. It's 20 slopes have become destinations for a wide range of activities Turbid jump. Zippy bike or mountain luge? Over the next 30 years, climate change will upset the balance in ski resorts. Not all will die, but all will be affected. Climate is what we expect, whether is what we get and sustainability how we adapt 11 years in the future. Will this become the only recipe for our resort in winter? I don't know. It's a difficult question to answer. Only a few resorts can hope to continue operating beyond 2050. According to Francis National Court of Audit reports published earlier this month. Ski resorts will have to switch their economic model to face this new reality and keep on attracting tourists. We usually have heavy snowfalls in January, which allows us to open the four weeks of February. This year, there is really no snow at all. We only opened our ski slopes for two days. Maybe next year we will have a meter of snow. In January, which will allow us to guarantee four weeks of the ski resort being open, but we are still going with trends which are still about the scarcity of snow in the end. This has consequences on businesses in the resorts. Josian Sampe, who owns a rental shop in the area, says she will have to close if this keeps on going. She said if we keep having seasons like this one, we'll have to stop while because we won't be able to go on. We'll need to think of something else. Jobs in the catering industry are also hits, but Leo Villa, a server in the restaurant, tries to keep a positive attitude. We feel like we're not in control, that we're losing the snow. Little by little in the coming years will be difficult too. So we try to find other things. The French Scheme model is running out of steam, strangled by the decline in the number of skiers by an increasingly unsuitable housing stock. And by heavy investments made by ski lifts operators. As climate change in the mix and you get a gloomy forecast of the future. Reduced snowfall, shorter winter seasons. But then why not use artificial snow machines whose Kaminski resorts have opted not to use them? The mountain industry presents them as a miracle solution to climate change, but they have proven to be unsustainable on the long term. They tend to have an underestimated impact on water resources and obviously, if temperatures rise too much. Cannon's cannot be used. Climate change is a slow process. We should understand these early stages as a sneak peek into our societies future. There is still time before we see ski slopes turned into dunes skiing of course, but before this is the case, let's take action to preserve our future.

GLOBAL BOILING In July 2023, Secretary General Antony Guterres introduced the term “global boiling “ to describe the escalating impacts of Climate Change. The idea of global boiling ironically aligns with the ‘boiling frog syndrome’. This metaphor illustrates the dangers of complacency and gradual change. According to the story, if a frog is put in boiling water, it will try to save itself by quickly jumping out. However, if it is placed in cold water that is slowly warmed, it will die as the water heats up. This metaphor aptly captures human complacency towards climate action. Nature , it seems , has escalated from ‘warming’to ‘boiling’ to deliver a massive jolt from the climate cauldron. #ClimateAction
