💼 ✨ A week ago marked an important milestone for the Policy Lab as we participated in the international seminar: Links Between #GreenTransition Policy Interventions, #Environmental Sustainability and #Social Wellbeing in Europe. The seminar was held in Brussels as part of our GREENPATHS Project, which is the European #KnowledgeHub on Just Transition Pathways. 🌈 The seminar was insightful and set the stage for a promising year ahead in knowledge production towards a fair and sustainable Europe. It served as a catalyst for collaboration and action, fostering strategic dialogues to map policy-environment-society connections and shape institutional frameworks. Key highlights included presentations on the project's objectives and significance in the European context, as well as a showcase of GREENPATHS's first deliverables. 🚀 The seminar was organized by Transnational Institute (TNI), Friends of the Earth Europe (FoEE), Oxfam Intermón, and Universidad de Cantabria. The Horizon research project partners that is implemented by 13 partners from across the EU. What is the role of regional organizations in maintaining #security across different parts of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC)? How did COVID-19 impact states in the region and what types of collective action have helped respond to public health emergencies? In what way is LAC environmental policy formulated and what broader lessons can be drawn for the Global South? This edited volume addresses these questions, revealing the reasons behind the successes and failures of #LAC regional responses to collective challenges as well as their limitations and potential for future improvement. It contains 11 chapters, authored by 16 authoritative academics who employ methodologically-diverse perspectives. Each chapter provides insights that would be of interest to scholars, students and policy-makers working on the regional governance of LAC and the Global South. The contributions are thematically organised in three parts and produced with pragmatic considerations in mind, discussing existing and potential real solutions to pressing issues. Dr. Ivo Ganchev is the Founding Director of the Centre for Regional Integration. He has previously taught at several universities, including Queen Mary University of London and Beijing Foreign Studies University. His publications have examined various political shifts in the Global South, such as the rise of the Pink Tide in Latin America. They have appeared in influential academic journals, including ‘World Affairs’, ‘Strategic Analysis’ and ‘International Studies’. Ivo holds Worldwide Recognised Tutor Status from the University of London as well as a PhD from Peking University, an MSc from the London School of Economics, and a BA from Newcastle University. Event alert! With the adoption of the Declaration on Future Generations, UN Member States are committing to place a greater emphasis on the importance of centering international governance on the cardinal principle of intergenerational equity. The Declaration thus has the potential to create a critical opportunity to challenge the obstacles that prevent the human rights of future generations from being effectively respected, protected, and fulfilled through the application of current human rights norms. Yet, in practice, international governance remains often driven by short-term priorities to the detriment of intragenerational and intergenerational equity. During this event, a diverse set of distinguished panelists: - H.E. Mr. Ambassador Odo Tevi, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Vanuatu to the United Nations - Astrid Puentes Riaño, UN Special Rapporteur on the human right to a healthy environment, - Surya Deva, UN Special Rapporteur on the right to development, - Prof. Sandra Liebenberg, University of Stellenbosch Consulting Society and chair of the drafting committee for the Maastricht Principles on the Human Rights of Future Generations - World's Youth for Climate Justice (WYCJ)'s Aditi S. - Juliana Almeida, Environmental Law Specialist, UN Environment Programme, and - Oxfam America's Ashfaq Khalfan. will provide some thoughts regarding opportunities lying ahead for UN institutions, including the International Court of Justice, governments, and other stakeholders, to build upon recent developments related to the human rights of future generations, including the Maastricht Principles on the Human Rights of Future Generations. 🗓 Saturday, 21 September, 10:00 -11:15 am EDT Register via the link in the first comment. #RightsOfFutureGenerations #MaastrichtPrinciples #SummitOfTheFuture

Prof. Louisa Parks from UniTrento School of International Studies collaborate with colleagues at Scuola Normale Superiore on the project "TRANSFORM. Driving Transformative Environmental Governance", financed by Ministero dell'Università e della Ricerca through the #NextGenerationEU initiative (PRIN 2022 PNRR Call). The goal is to investigate how civil society actors drive change towards transformative environmental governance across local, national, and international levels with a focus on Italy. The actions of different kinds of citizens' groups can challenge the current forms and norms of environmental governance: by enacting innovative change themselve, through making demands for change at multiple levels, and through combinations of both. The case studies from the TRANSFORM project will unpack how and where change unfolds, and support civil society to push for change through its findings. https://lnkd.in/du7yiuUK

Really interesting emerging concepts on the right of nature itself to be considered as a separate entity not just anthropomorphic delegates. I think that this will become more common in years to come. https://lnkd.in/ePmPfKKq
