Insights and opportunities at the September ScaleUp Britain Summit 🚀 Earlier this month, the ScaleUp Britain Summit took place at the Manchester Technology Centre, bringing together scaling businesses and ecosystem leaders from Greater Manchester and the North West. It was an insightful event that explored the funding landscape for 2024, innovative pathways to private capital, and collaboration opportunities with Innovate UK. Here are some key highlights: - Dr Lisa Hazelden, Chief Product Officer at Innovate UK, shared invaluable insights into how Innovate UK's investor services and market collaborations are driving business growth both locally and globally. Lisa highlighted Innovate UK’s portfolio of products and services support businesses at every stage - from concept to commercialisation, scale and growth. - Marcus Stuttard of the London Stock Exchange shared the updates on capital markets, while Angelene Woodland Singleton of the British Business Bank shed light new opportunities through the Long-Term Investment Fund and the UK Growth Fund. - Industry experts, Margaret Rice-Jones and Cate Poulson, provided guidance on building strong scaleup brands and boards, leaving participants with actionable strategies to accelerate their growth journeys. The Summit was a unique platform for attendees to connect with investors, market experts, and peers, share experiences, and expand their networks. Let's stop wasting everyone's time - if you're leading a growth stage business or startup, can you answer these questions for investors? I had a meeting with a colleague this morning where we went through the general mix of the terrific support for early-stage and growing businesses in Australia, discussing Startspace c/o State Library Victoria, Press Play Ventures and LaunchVic, Melbourne Climate Network and Climate Salad, and a host of those in other regions. This went on to folks such as Wholesale Investor, InvestorHub, the Global Entrepreneurship Network and firms like Tractor Ventures, KPMG High Growth Ventures, Breakthrough Victoria and the Australian Business Growth Fund (ABGF), and as we head up to the institutional end groups such as the Responsible Investment Association Australasia (RIAA) and the Investor Group on Climate Change (IGCC). A lot of the time, it's easier to get a better product-market fit and engage more clients than it is to give away chunks of your company, and at this time of year folks like Radium Capital are at a high point for R&D tax expenditure advances if folks are capital constrained. Thus this little video, because I was asked about speaking at a breakfast event and said "I'd ask these three questions, get them to map it on the Business Model Canvas and substantiate it through clients".
