Harmony, History & Style - New Online Course & Workshops! 🎉📚 This new course blends analysis and music history to help you understand and engage with music on a deeper level. Using some of the most beloved pieces in the classical repertoire, the course will will help you: • Learn how #chords are put together to create a particular sense of style; • Cultivate skills of #harmonicanalysis to understand form and content in music; • Understand style in historical context. The course combines online content comprising video lessons and activities which are followed-up with live online workshops. The video lessons introduce concepts which are then put into practice in two analysis activities before each workshop. The workshops are live sessions and your opportunity to discuss the piece in depth, ask any questions that came up and compare your analysis with Lona's and others in the group. The first unit features two workshops on Thursday 27 June and Thursday 11 July. Be sure to watch the two introduction videos and two theory videos before these sessions, and give yourself some time to work on the activity. The workshops will be recorded if you are unable to join us live, and you will still be able to watch the recordings and view Lona's analysis afterwards. One of my favorite concert violinists and music professors of all time, Itzhak Perlman, said “If you learn it slowly, you forget it slowly. If you learn something very quickly, you forget it immediately.” I can attest to this phenomenon firsthand. I used to rush through my practice sessions to cover a lot of material. As a result, I would make significant gains in one practice session, but those games would disappear literally overnight. Plenty of research shows us that spacing out. Our learning sessions and testing ourselves often are two of the best things we can do to learn quickly. When we try to cram in a lot of material in one session, we end up encoding almost all of that information into short-term memory instead of long-term memory. This is why, the next day, a lot of that improvement seems to disappear. Check out my youtube channel for my latest video on one of the best strategies you can use to memorize your music quickly: https://lnkd.in/exiFh_SQ #SpanishGuitarMastery #FlamencoGuitar #ClassicalGuitar #SpanishGuitar #PracticeStrategies #ExpertPerformance #GuitarScience #HowToPractice #LearnGuitarFaster #GuitarPractice #MusicPractice

Sometimes putting some relaxing music can help a student focus more, while others need some upbeat pop songs. It's important that we, as teachers, know our students needs. Students use music much like we do. Have you ever put music on while planning a lesson? ❓ #ESL #EnglishAsASecondLanguage #WorkplaceCommunication #ProfessionalDevelopment #LanguageLearning #EnglishFluency #CareerSuccess #continuouslearning #englishteacher #teachertraining #teacherdevelopment

- Why we should never practice regularly with metronome I begin showing a possible way to practice, taking into consideration harmonic functions, consonances and dissonances, and taking time to think. In this way I will be able to find the proper time and speed of the piece I mind to perform. Starting from meaning of music, never from written mathematical duration of the notes. Engaging students in music goes beyond method books and technique; it's about sparking their curiosity and building connections through pieces that capture their imagination. Themed music, like the iconic Psycho theme, offers an exciting way to dive into dramatic expression and musical story telling (perhaps just for the older student).
