The Ishango bone discovered by Jean de Heinzelin in 1950 near the border of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda is indeed a remarkable archaeological find. Dated to around 25,000 years ago, it is notable not only for its age but also for the markings carved into it, which suggest a rudimentary form of mathematical notation. What makes the Ishango bone significant is the presence of tally marks and grouped notches that appear to represent numerical sequences. This discovery challenges previous assumptions about the origins of mathematics, particularly in Africa. Before the Ishango bone was found, the historical narrative often credited ancient civilizations like those in Egypt and Mesopotamia with the development of early mathematics. The presence of such mathematical inscriptions on the Ishango bone suggests a sophisticated understanding of numerical concepts much earlier than previously thought. This challenges Eurocentric views that ancient African societies lacked advanced intellectual achievements. Instead, it supports the idea that Africa played a crucial role in the development of fundamental mathematical concepts. In essence, the Ishango bone provides evidence that mathematics likely had its origins in Africa long before its formalization in other parts of the world. It serves as a testament to the intellectual capabilities and achievements of early African societies, reshaping our understanding of the history of mathematics and emphasizing Africa's significant contributions to human knowledge and civilization. #ancientafrica #mathematics #africa

THE GLOBAL AFRICAN AWAKENING ASE' Ancient Mali, Home of Mansa Musa... Timbuktu in Mali is home to one of the World's oldest University, "Sankore" which had libraries filled with manuscript written in Ajama (African languages such as Hausa written in scripts in form of Arabic). University of Sankore is believed to be built by Mansa Musa. Subjects studied in the university included Geography, Astronomy, Medicine, Mathematics, Science and even history, despite the fact that history was never part of any teaching curriculum in the Islamic world at the time. When Eurasians begin visiting then later Colonizing Mali in the 1600s to 1800s, the Malians began hiding their Manuscripts in basements, attics, and underground chambers in fear of their historical destruction by the hands of foreigners. In recent history, as many as 700,000 manuscripts have been rediscovered containing some books in the modern and advanced mathematics, science, astronomy, philosophy, and Historical events. Dr. Assaf Sarig from the Department of History at the University of Haifa and Israel Yeruchimovich, a PhD candidate in Economics at Brown University, share a compelling article examining the impact of religious social networks on the cultural integration and professional specialization of Jews in 19th-century Germany. In support of their research, our consulting unit utilized digitization to map the railways in Prussia between 1835-1885. #Digitization is a key tool for preserving and managing historical information, and in this case, for mapping the railways from this historical period. #GIScience #spatialdatascience #GIS #UniversityOfHaifa

THE GLOBAL AFRICAN AWAKENING ASE' THE UNIVERSITY OF SANKORE, TIMBUKTU The historic city of Timbuktu in Mali recognised for its profound scholarly heritage, harbours the remnants of one of the world's earliest centres of learning, the University of Sankore. Established in the 1200s AD, this university was a beacon of knowledge, housing an extensive collection of manuscripts. As the centuries progressed, from the 1300s through to the 1800s AD, Timbuktu experienced the arrival and, in some cases, the colonization by Europeans and West Asians. This period marked a turning point for the preservation of the manuscripts. The Malian custodians of this knowledge, acutely aware of the potential risk of dèstruction or expropriation by foreign invaders a fate that befell numerous other texts across the African continent, notably in Kemet (Ancient Egypt) took decisive action to safeguard their heritage. They concealed these invaluable documents in various hidden locations, including basements, attics, and underground vaults, thereby shielding them from potential harm. Among the concealed treasures, were manuscripts that covered a broad spectrum of knowledge, including significant works on mathematics and astronomy. These documents are pivotal in understanding the historical depth of mathematical and scientific inquiry in Africa, predating European colonial influence. They reveal a sophisticated grasp of mathematics, science, astronomy, philosophy, and other complex concepts and contribute to debunking the myth of a pre-colonial Africa void of advanced scholarly pursuits. In recent decades, the rediscovery of up to 700,000 of these manuscripts has illuminated the enduring legacy of African scholarship. The Timbuktu manuscripts, particularly those related to mathematics and astronomy, underscore Africa's role as a contributor to the global repository of knowledge well before the advent of European colonization. This resurgence of interest in Africa's intellectual history not only enriches our understanding of the past but also inspires a reevaluation of the continent's place in the history of science and education. Reclaiming Kemetic and Alkebulan Sovereign Realities: A Critical Analysis of Western Narratives and the Restoration of Authentic Alkebulan (African) Legacies. Introduction The historical and cultural narratives of Kemet (ancient Egypt) and Alkebulan (Africa) have been systematically distorted and marginalized within Western scholarship. This dissertation aims to deconstruct these false narratives and reclaim the authentic sovereign realities of these ancient civilizations, guided by the works of renowned scholars such as Dr. Yosef Ben-Jochannan, Dr. John Henrik Clarke, Dr. Chancellor Williams, Dr. Ivan Van Sertima, Dr. Francis Cress Welsing, Professor George G.M. #ethiopian Historians cite that the Kemet's population was made of Arabs. Arabs' migration to Africa was a recent development. The original Kemets are Kush people descended from the clan of the true first worshipers of One God the Nubians " Mo Anbessa" the lion people (Lion is an endemic animal of Africa). Lions never left the territory of Africa during the Nile civilization. Remnants of the Kemets now live in the western end of the Ethiopian highland under the name of "Kimant." According to archeological evidence, it reveals that Kemet was a land of blacks (Nubians) and that Kushites were the first inhabitants. The Kerma culture was an early civilization in ancient Nubia, or what is now Sudan and Ethiopia, that flourished from about 2500 to 1500 BC. The Kerma people were known for their ceramics, which were made by hand without a wheel. Their pottery from the "Classic Kerma" period, around 1750–1550 BC, is characterized by a black top, red-brown base, and irregular purple-grey band. The black tops and interiors are often very fine and have a metallic luster. The current Kimante people have the residual know-how of the craftmanship. it is open to the world to witness the facts. However, historians and researchers redirect our attention disguising us as an alternative reality with the newly developed name with ancientdom in front. The purpose is clear, taking away the origin of civilization. Black Africans should wake up and claim their history was researched and reported correctly.

Why am I doing a PhD: It started due to my desire to find out all about the clothing of Cyprus and why it changed but today after a long and emotional interview with an amazing 90-year old lady who personifies faith and dignity I realized that it’s also because I am interested in humans and their life stories, their values, beliefs and emotions. Her testimony confirmed something which I was hoping was true was the case but had little evidence to go by and give me even more motivation to keep researching. History is not just about wars and politics. Oral history interviews are useful tool opening a window into the past which lets us see the world as it was. Normal everyday people can enlighten us about life in the past as well as a study of political events and statistics. By taking political and economic history into account alongside oral history testimonies we can get a broader picture of the past #oralhistory #socialhistory #historian #iloveresearch #phdcandidate #historyphd #phdresearch #phdlife (Picture from National Geographic Cyprus 1928 Eleni from Rizokarpaso)

Mapping Emotional Shifts and Histories in Turkey’s Modernization: From Ottoman Inferiority to Republican Honor in Falih Rıfkı Atay’s Reflections Seeking to reflect the emotional landscape of the Early Republican Period, emotional terms and expressions in the works of Falih Rıfkı Atay, such as "inferiority" (aşağılık duygusu), "honor" (şeref), and "happiness" (saadet) is going to be scrutinized in this seminar. It will investigate how these emotional concepts played a crucial role in guiding society from a feeling of inferiority to one of honor and in establishing a new "emotional regime." Besides, this seminar intends to explain how the early republic's emotional-historical narrative was legitimized by elites, as represented in Falih Rıfkı Atay's reflections. #turkey #emotions #inferiority #honor #happiness #society #narrative #reflections #ottoman #republicofturkey
