Our community of Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship alumni, students and staff have consistently achieved the remarkable, turning challenges into opportunities to create solutions for a better world. Innovation does not come consistently with a number 8 wire “make do and mend” approach to nation building. Building people’s potential and capability does not come from happenstance. I have seen firsthand the hard graft my innovation and entrepreneurship centre colleagues have done to thoughtfully create co-curricular and curricular learning opportunities to complement core study (subject matter expertise) and build mindsets and capabilities to enable Aotearoa’s innovation and entrepreneurship potential. Initiatives are researched against international best practise, tailored for local needs, ecosystems and interests and iterated. And NZ needs more - as well as a considered national approach that is operationalised so as to not just be a strategy on a page followed by ad hoc throw-at-the-wall-and-see-what-sticks tactics. As Dawn Freshwater notes, in the absence of a clear overarching national strategy, The University of Auckland is taking the lead to do things that will drive an innovation and business agenda to strengthen NZ’s global competitiveness. “We are really thinking about the innovation strategy for the nation.. 📢 Exciting developments from our recent meeting at the Economics Department, Turku University on the 3rd and 4th of October 2024! Anthony Carty represented Momentum as we joined our partners to continue advancing the PROMISE project’s mission of equipping educators to inspire entrepreneurship through professional noticing. Key discussions focused on refining resources within Work Package 3 (WP3), which directly supports educators in promoting entrepreneurial thinking. This aligns with PROMISE’s broader objective to enhance educational practices that foster real-world skills and proactive mindsets among students. The team also explored details for the upcoming international online workshop in November, a collaborative event to drive further engagement and shared expertise on entrepreneurship education. In addition, we reviewed the research methodology for Work Package 4 (WP4), which will underpin our approach to gathering insights and assessing the impact of professional noticing in educational settings. We are happy to invite you to the 2nd Challenge4Impact Forum, in which we will discuss:   How to renew entrepreneurship curricula? How to implement international virtual CBL programmes? How to bridge barriers of international teams?   We live in times of multiple crises and challenges. International understanding, entrepreneurial action and sustainable innovation are more important than ever. New approaches and methods are increasingly needed to enable students to acquire the skills they need to overcome these challenges.   Challenge4Impact - an Erasmus+ project of the Universities of Oldenburg and Linköping and Vennebroek Academic Services. This is a network for Challenge-Based teaching regarding sustainable entrepreneurship and innovation. We focus on international and transdisciplinary cooperation and develop skills programs for students and business partners to tackle climate change and other sustainability challenges globally. We design and test these educational programmes and provide guidance materials to support lecturers and program managers at universities. A Playground for Impact: Key Takeaways from the 3E Conference in Amsterdam Last week, Amsterdam hosted the innovative 3E Conference, themed "Entrepreneurship Education – a playground for impact." This annual event has set a new standard for entrepreneurship conferences by focusing on questions and challenges instead of pre-packaged solutions and research presentations. It brought together educators, researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to discuss the latest in enterprise education. Entrepreneurship Education (EE) has matured significantly in theory and practice over the years, yet it remains playful and experimental. The 3E Conference emphasized this dynamic, encouraging participants to explore innovative actions and experimentation. This approach fostered creativity, interaction, and mutual learning to address various challenges and contexts. The conference highlighted the importance of steering EE towards promoting social development, mental and physical wellbeing, and sustainability. It stressed the need for innovation, creativity, and responsible risk-taking while focusing on what students want and need to learn. This year’s event featured two calls: one for research papers and one for practitioner development workshops. The eleventh edition showcased 30 practitioner workshops and 60 research papers from over 200 submissions, reflecting the vibrant and engaged community. I was very humbled to be attending and presenting my paper "How do children experience entrepreneurial education?" since I was one of the only attendees not having or being enrolled in a PhD. As someone who thrives at the intersection of academia and practical application, attending the 3E Conference was a remarkable experience. It provided invaluable insights into where research stands compared to teaching entrepreneurial education. The opportunity to network with fellow professionals in this field was enriching, offering a deeper understanding of the current landscape and future directions of EE. In the coming weeks, I look forward to sharing the insights and key takeaways from this prestigious conference.
