#WorldCleanupDay: South Asia is a hotspot for plastic waste entering the ocean each year. Two recently released The World Bank reports, supported by PROBLUE and SAWI trust funds, reveal that rivers in this region are major conduits for plastic pollution. The problem is intensified as the plastic waste management infrastructure struggles to keep pace with rapid urbanization and population growth. Learn how the World Bank is empowering communities and protecting waters in this blog by Christian Peter and Ann Jeannette Glauber: https://lnkd.in/d2Tef22f #PROBLUE_Ocean #PlasticPollution #SouthAsia #Sustainability #BeatPlasticPollution

Today, the United Nations marks March 30th as the International Day of Zero Waste. This day is an important reminder of the critical need to enhance global waste management and promote sustainable consumption and production patterns at every level of society. As the UN notes, waste reduction is one of the most pressing issues of our time. The impact of waste on our environment is significant, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions and other forms of pollution. But the impact of waste on human health is equally concerning, with plastic pollution alone causing up to a million deaths annually in developing nations. On this International Day of Zero Waste, let us all commit to taking action to reduce waste and promote sustainable practices. Together, we can help create a healthier and more sustainable future for ourselves and for generations to come. #InternationalDayofZeroWaste #sustainability #wastereduction

Taking action against plastic pollution! Did you know that our efforts, in collaboration with Janathakshan and supported by USAID Clean Cities, Blue Ocean program, are empowering Informal Waste Collectors to safeguard waterways from plastic waste? Every small step counts in our mission to protect our oceans. A crucial small change is promoting responsible disposal practices. Encourage community members to properly dispose of their waste by using designated recycling bins and following waste disposal guidelines. #ReducePlasticWaste#SaveOurOceans #CircularEconomics #WasteManagement #USAID #CCBO #ResourceManagement #SustainablePractices #PlasticRecycling #PlasticWasteSolutions #SustainableDevelopmentGoals

World Oceans Day is an annual reminder of the critical importance of our oceans and the urgent need to protect them. It's a global call to action, urging individuals, communities and nations to come together to safeguard our planet's life-support system. One of the most pressing challenges we face is plastic pollution, which threatens marine life, ecosystems and human health. This World Oceans Day, let's raise awareness about the impact of plastic waste and commit to reducing our consumption of single-use plastics. Akvo's Atmospheric Water Generators offer a sustainable solution by reducing the need for plastic bottled water, thus helping to mitigate the plastic pollution crisis. Let's celebrate World Oceans Day not just today, but every day, by taking concrete steps to preserve the beauty, biodiversity and abundance of our oceans for future generations. #waterengineeringtechnology #waterfromairextraction #warerfromair #airtowater #waterindustry #waterengineering #airtowatergenerator #air #waterconservationtip #chennai #tamilnadu #tamil #akvosphere #ownyourwater #waterindependenceforlife #waterindependent #waterindependence

🚨 Did you know? Millions of animals are killed by plastics every year, from birds to fish to other marine organisms. That's nearly 700 species, including endangered ones, are known to have been affected by plastics. This alarming situation highlighted by "National Geographic Society" advocates that the solution to prevent plastic waste from entering rivers and seas could be accomplished with improved waste management systems and recycling. What are you waiting for to become a decision maker in your community?? Be part of us as from April 19-20, 2024 for our large scale Clean-up at Cité des Nations in Yaoundé as we work hand in gloves to tackle plastic pollution. #BeatPlasticPollution #ProtectOurEnvironment #Sanamare #ThinkGreen

What if I told you we tend to oversimplify the cause of the plastic pollution crisis? We tend to attribute a big part of it to the lack of recycling programs, when in reality we are missing a big piece of the picture….. Did you know that 2 billion people around the world lack access to any waste collection services? This translates to 3 billion people who openly dump their waste, creating a significant source of plastic pollution in our oceans and environment. I was as shocked as you when I first read this great report by UN Habitat. This report, titled "Leaving no one behind”, sheds light on a critical aspect of the plastic pollution crisis often overlooked. We can't truly address plastic in our oceans without tackling the issue of waste collection on land, especially in developing communities. The report emphasizes the importance of supporting the informal waste collection sector. These individuals play a vital role in recovering waste, but often lack proper equipment, training, and fair compensation. Here's a great quote from the report: "An estimated 60 million tonnes of plastic per year from the municipal solid waste stream pollute the environment including water bodies, due to lack of collection services and mismanagement of solid waste." This is a call to action! We all have a role to play in addressing this global challenge. #WasteManagement #PlasticPollution #NoOneLeftBehind #RiosLimpios Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/ejYBpb2D
