Apprenticeships can be a solid, ongoing tactic to recruiting technicians, but establishing a program can seem daunting. Luckily, there's three easy steps to get started: 1. Figure out where you'll source your apprentices 2. Establish the structure of your program 3. Continue to grow your shop staff And having a strong apprentice program can help attract more people to your shop, as was the case for Sasha Spencer at KTS Enterprise: "[Our apprenticeships] has also been great for retention as well, because I've had some of [our apprentices] say that they were very grateful for the opportunity to learn something, and they're still with us,” Spencer stated. “Some of them have even taken a pay cut to come and apprentice with us.” #truckingindustry #fleetmaintenance #hiring #apprenticeships

So, as we celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, what kinds of apprenticeships can you actually do? Contrary to popular misconceptions, the answer is: almost any you can think of. Hospitality, healthcare, technology, business, engineering, hairdressing and science are just some of the industries where apprentices can gain on-the-job training while earning a wage. The idea that apprenticeships are only linked to manual trades is an outdated one - though, of course, great opportunities are still available in those sectors too! It's National Apprenticeships Week! We want to ensure that our students to have the opportunity to explore all available future options to find the best one for them, whether that is an apprenticeship, university or going straight into work from school. Apprenticeships offer many benefits as a future pathway, but research shows that the majority of apprentices are not from lower socio-economic backgrounds. Last year, the Social Mobility Commission ran an Employer Masterclass on how to use apprenticeships to improve social mobility and support with building skills for life. In 2021, Dom completed his apprenticeship with us. We believe in continuing to support our apprentices even after they finish their training, and so Dom made the decision to enrol in the Customer Service Specialist Level 3 Apprenticeship program. Maybe a bit too honest here - but it is the reality 😂 I would not have my career without some key mentors & employers - but it all started with the opportunities an Apprenticeship gave me. I have also been incredible fortunate to work with some fantastic apprentices over the years, the most recent being Robbie Climance & Jo West & have loved to see their career thrive too. Plus I am actively encouraging my child to do the same!
