Why do we often chase quick fixes—free lunches at work, promises of treats for our kids, or lavish gifts in our relationships—only to feel empty once the moment passes? But let’s be honest—purpose isn’t always easy to find, nor is it a magical cure-all. It takes effort, balance, and awareness of our unique situations. The other day, I was sitting in a café, and I overheard this group at the next table chatting. One guy goes, “Yeah, so now we’ve got a fruit basket and a ping-pong table at work. They’re calling it New Work!” The others all nodded in agreement, but then he added, “But honestly, I’m just glad it’s Friday. Thank God It’s Friday!” I couldn’t help but laugh. But as I sipped my coffee, something Frithjof Bergmann once said popped into my head: “The big difference is that most workers do their job because they have to. I wanted to eliminate that compulsion, and that’s when I had the idea to create a work culture that lets people do what they truly want to do, instead of what they have to.” Sure, a fruit basket and ping-pong table are nice perks. But do they really change how we work? It’s like having colorful sticky notes and a whiteboard — it doesn’t magically make you agile. It’s really about helping people figure out what they really, really want to do. Companies need to not only create the space for that but also encourage and support their employees in actually doing it. Imagine a world where nobody celebrates Friday anymore. In fact, people might even feel a little sad the workweek is over because they love what they do. Instead, we’d all be saying, “Thank God It’s Monday!” Now that would be a game-changer!

It's up! Our kudos wall is there to be covered with appreciation notes. Work happiness is more than ping-pong and a fruit basket. That's why this week is Culture Week where I work, focusing on the people behind the brand and their well-being. Do you give yourself a 7 out of 10 when it comes to job happiness? Don't worry if you don't. Apparently very few people do. Not every working day is a walk in the park. Sometimes you'll be challenged and make mistakes. You'll experience frustration, maybe even worse, but whatever the weather, you will grow. It's the days when you see results because you have contributed to something that count. Happy employees are more creative and motivated. Moreover, happy worker, productive worker, healthy body. Creating a sense of belonging doesn't happen overnight. It takes a good framework and unison. This morning I was watching an interview between The Rick Stein Group and @stuartmaconie they were discussing the full English and how it’s losing its popularity as people move towards healthy eating. Stuart’s response Life is to be enjoyed not endured. I loved it… a little bit of what you fancy does you good. We have 24 hours in a day, if we assume 6-8 of those are sleeping, 2-5 are chores, shopping & ablutions, 8 are working, and 1-3 hours travelling to and from work that leaves very little time for joy, if any except on your time off, and holidays. So enjoying our work is really important. Leaders, team mates, company directors what are you doing to create an enjoyable environment in the workplace, where people want to come to work and are allowed to have fun whilst there. I have seen too many companies pile on the pressure, with some even banning talking except on breaks, where quotas are so extreme employees have no chance of meeting them and feel they are on a treadmill to no where. Luckily I have also seen leaders and companies whose values include fun and live by it. Imperial London Hotels whose parties are legendary especially the Halloween party. They regularly organise events both during working hours and outside so everyone can join in from quizzes and treats during happiness week to carol singing. As the week comes to a close, it’s time for our Friday reflection at LH Talent Agency. This week we have learned that not every day is the same. Some days are filled with creativity and productivity and some days leave us with lots of questions.
