Does coaching work? It does! Research in the field of coaching has increased significantly, providing a broad and varied evidence base for its effectiveness. However, there are some prerequisites which need to be met. 👉 Choose a professional coach who personally fits you. 👉 Feed your inner motivation by dreaming big. 👉 Invest your time into coaching. Always measure the journey to notice the change: the agreed-upon objectives → the actions taken during the coaching process → the changes that followed → the impact of these changes → the lessons learned from the experience. Voilà!

This week, think about two types of coaching. Giving tactical advice in the moment (like a coach walking along the pool), and coaching later with reflective coaching. Reviewing a recent situation or trend with the hopes of improving the pattern for the next time. And remember - you don’t need to announce that you are coaching for it to be effective; it is better if you don’t. You can learn more about these two approaches in this Rob Luke, BHSc, MA article > https://lnkd.in/eYKMr_Yf

On Monday I was chatting to Joost Minnaar and Emma de Blok about the biggest obstacles to thriving self-managing teams. Joost challenged me to talk about coaching in a common sense way, rather than a fluffy way. Why is it relevant in a self-organised context and what does it actually mean? When I lead courses, participants often tell me they don't like coaching. They've had someone do it to them before and it feels weird, like they have a hidden agenda. Or they think it means learning lots of models. I get it. Coaching has a bad rap sometimes and there are lots of different definitions. But let me speak to a common pain point. People, especially leaders, often complain to me that people aren't self-managing, even though we have no top-down hierarchy anymore. "They keep coming to me to solve things!" The thing is, we keep people dependent on us by how we're being and how we choose to respond. We don't even realise we're doing it! But we are creating the very dependency we don't want every day. Coaching is a way out of that. Though not coaching as we know it but rather coaching as a way of being. Here's an attempt to share how...

Looking back on my ten-week coaching journey, I am amazed by the lessons I have learned about vulnerability, accountability, belief, and trust. I owe this to the guidance of an exceptional coach. Although it is difficult to pinpoint my learnings to just five, I'll give it a shot: 1.“Great” coaches are always on your side, no matter what the topic. 2. Excellent leaders and mentors use coaching to help others realize their full potential. 3. Coaching is a powerful tool for communication that anyone can use. 4. Being open and receptive to coaching is the first step towards making the changes you want. 5. Change that is brought about through coaching requires time, goal setting, and active accountability by all. Have you had a positive experience with coaching or encountered someone who embodies the principles of effective coaching? I'd love to hear your stories—those moments of active listening, empathetic guidance, and collaborative partnership that leave a lasting impact. A special shoutout to Stacie Torres, CPCC, for her support and guidance and for being a trusted friend. Also, look below for a chance to win a complimentary CTI Fundamentals course! Have you ever considered what the barriers are to coaching in your organisation? Well, here are some common themes - Is the company culture against this type of approach? Are people cynical, thinking they know best? Do they consider the coaching style as a come-and-go management gimmick? It takes too long, and they don't have time for the coaching approach. They don't believe in the softly softly approach, which gets nothing done. Yep, I have heard them all and so many more.
