Well done Events ACT VisitCanberra for the spectacular Symphony in the Park tonight with the Canberra Symphony Orchestra and Hoodoo Gurus as part of #EnlightenFestival. The 2024 recipient of the Innovative Concert of the Year Award at OPUS Klassik, Dorothee Kalbhenn, believes that the institution she works with "should behave like a good neighbour, who cares about the people around them.” The idea of her award-winning ‘Orchestra Society’ encourages communication and bringing together different groups to achieve a common result. Progress and empowerment fuels a necessity for collaboration between a wide range of players; large arts organisations, concert halls, opera houses, orchestras - and associations, schools, and refugee centers. Dorothee Kalbhenn, who is the Program Director of the Konzerthaus Berlin and on the 2025 Classical:NEXT Jury, and musician and project designer Kian Jazdi discuss why small and large institutions should team up, listen and pay attention to each other. #classicalmusic #innovation #collaboration

Back to the string instruments, in the symphony orchestra, I almost forgot about the Mandolin. Mandolins evolved from lute family instruments in Europe. Predecessors include the gittern and mandore or mandola in Italy during the 17th and 18th centuries. There were a variety of regional variants, but the two most widespread ones were the Neapolitan mandolin and the Lombard mandolin. The Neapolitan style has spread worldwide. I think all mandolins have double sets of four strings for richness of tone. Here's a Vivaldi piece you may recognize. Amazing, precise finger movement. https://lnkd.in/ezxuge3K.

How to make meaning of our of place in the Universe? An existential question that Bryan Cox grapples powerfully: "humans are the only known island of meaning in a sea of 400 billion starts." As an antidote to the violence we see around the world, watch Bryan Cox and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra on iview to see an existential question approaches with grace, music and scientific communication. Highly recommend: https://lnkd.in/ggd87NeB. And a 1 min summary (though less awe striking) here: https://lnkd.in/g9pN_NJt Peace.

How to open the circles of conservative music theatre and include future donors, technology, artistic ideas and audiences? See the full opening keynote of Aviel Cahn (General Manager of the Grand Théâtre de Genève and designated director of Deutsche Oper Berlin). At Classical:NEXT 2024 he talked about the current state of music theatre, how to work against conservative understandings and how to attract new donors and audiences alike. "Opera will become an endangered species, if it stays a dusty art form from another time, if it is uncapable to react to the challenges of our time, if it loses touch with a quickly evolving society and hence if it loses financial support because politicians or new generations of donors are not interested in it. Meaning: We need to challenge our structures, our repertoire as well as our role in society!" https://lnkd.in/eyqJSNty
