However, your role should not be limited to just that. Remember, among the visitors are students eager to learn and explore the latest technologies and innovations. Do not hesitate to dedicate your time and effort to explaining and guiding them. Additionally, you may encounter individuals seeking employment or training opportunities. Do not turn your back on them or undervalue their questions and inquiries. Remember that you were once in their position—a student or a job seeker—pursuing knowledge or guidance. By the grace of God, you have been blessed with success and provision from sources you never anticipated. Therefore, let your time and effort at this conference be part of the "Zakat" (charity) of your knowledge, just as wealth has its own Zakat. The Zakat of knowledge is sharing it with those who deserve it and offering it to those who sincerely seek it. And just as wealth grows through charitable giving, knowledge grows and is blessed when taught and shared with others. We pray that God blesses our provisions, grants us beneficial knowledge, and makes us among those who teach others good and are rewarded for it.

The betrayal within the Black nonprofit sector is a deeply troubling reality. When organizations that should be champions of their own communities instead align with corporate interests, it’s more than just a missed opportunity—it’s a profound act of betrayal. These nonprofits, which have rebranded themselves under the guise of “urban” initiatives, often do so to secure funding from white-led foundations or corporations, while sidelining the genuine needs and voices of the Black community. The Boston-based Black Economic Council of Massachusetts (BECMA) is one such entity, and while it publicly advocates for Black economic empowerment, the question remains: Is it truly serving the people, or is it caught in the same cycle of appeasing white funders at the expense of real progress? The Real Issues: A Call for Accountability BECMA and other organizations like it must be held accountable. It’s not enough to wave the banner of Black support if, behind closed doors, they are cutting deals that compromise the very communities they claim to uplift. The Black community deserves leadership that will stand firm against corporate pressures, not those who will sell out for a grant or a seat at the table with the powerful. We need to question the motives behind these “urban” programs and demand transparency. Are these initiatives truly designed to benefit the Black community, or are they simply a way to maintain the status quo, placating us with superficial changes while the real power dynamics remain unchanged? A Call to Action: Stand with Integrity Donald and Wrigcoll represent the kind of leadership that refuses to bow to these pressures. Their unwavering commitment to justice, even in the face of corporate and nonprofit betrayal, is what true community leadership looks like. It’s time for BECMA and similar organizations to take a hard look in the mirror and decide where they truly stand. Will they continue to play the game, or will they stand with integrity, even if it means losing funding or favor with the powerful? The Black community is watching, and we will not be silenced. We demand more than just words—we demand action, transparency, and a real commitment to justice. As a mixed-race individual—half Chinese, half Korean—who moved to Australia after high school, I’ve often struggled with identity. Am I Chinese? Korean? Australian? For years, I found comfort in defining myself through my work. Later, I became a wife, and my identity shifted again. This year, I stepped into yet another role: founder. It’s been exciting, humbling, and, at times, terrifying. Leading a small team while navigating uncertainties has forced me to confront a question I’ve avoided for years: Who am I really, and what if we fail? I’ve realized something that might resonate with others in similar situations: Like so many first-generation migrants, founders, and women, I’ve spent much of my life trying to meet expectations—whether cultural, societal, or self-imposed. But as 2024 ends, I’ve learned that it’s okay to embrace the unknown. I don’t have all the answers, but I know this: - I am a migrant who want to challenge the status quo. - I am learning to become a good innovator and a founder, willing to risk failure to create something meaningful. -I am a woman learning to embrace vulnerability, resilience, and growth. To my fellow founders, migrants, and women: It’s not easy. There are dark days, self-doubt, and sacrifices. But there’s also strength in knowing we’re not alone. Programs like SBE Australia program reminds us we are not alone on this path. Here’s to being brave, open, and ready—for failure, success, setbacks, and breakthroughs. Let’s keep moving forward together.
