A pivotal clinical trial of a “pill-on-a-thread” test, which will decide if it becomes a new screening programme for oesophageal cancer, has welcomed its first participants. The BEST4 Screening trial will find out if the capsule sponge test could be used to screen people with heartburn for Barrett’s oesophagus – a condition that can lead to oesophageal cancer. The trial is backed by £6.4 million of funding from Cancer Research UK (CRUK) and the NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research). It will be led from Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the University of Cambridge, with the Cancer Research UK Cancer Prevention Trials Unit at Queen Mary University of London designing the trial and analysing results from it. Attention all UK based oncology professionals: Please spare 10 minutes to complete this survey from Niall as it will give valuable insight into the state of play of advanced cancer exercise offerings. If this can be shared, it will be greatly appreciated 🙏 My name is Niall, and I’m a PhD student at Sheffield Hallam University. I’m currently completing my first study, which involves a 10-minute survey exploring the attitudes, practices, and barriers to implementing physical activity in patients with advanced cancer. We are inviting healthcare providers in the UK working with patients living with advanced cancer to fill it in. No knowledge of physical activity is required, and we don’t collect any identifiable information. If you fit the inclusion criteria, I’d really appreciate it if you could fill in the survey. If not, but you are able to share it among your network or share my post, that would be great. Here is the link to the survey: https://lnkd.in/epQw2uPB I will also disseminate the results of this study and future research here if you want to stay updated. Thanks Niall Qualtrics Survey | Physical Activity In Advanced Cancer https://lnkd.in/eUW9AQ2M Thank you for agreeing to participate in this study. As we observe Esophageal Cancer Awareness Month, the National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR) wishes to highlight the crucial role of awareness and early detection in combating esophageal cancer. This disease is one of the deadliest forms of cancer, largely due to its late diagnosis in many patients. In the United States, esophageal cancer is expected to result in approximately 22,370 new cases and cause nearly 16,130 deaths in 2024. This cancer type has a five-year survival rate of about 20%, underscoring the importance of recognizing symptoms early and undergoing regular medical screening. This April, let's raise our voices and spread the word about the significance of early detection and support the ongoing research that brings hope to those affected by esophageal cancer. https://lnkd.in/egA25rnh #esophagealcancerawareness #cancerresearch #earlydetection #NFCR #fightcancer #innovation #healthawareness #cancerprevention #savelives #makecurespossible

Why is Cancer Awareness Month Important? Cancer Awareness Month is crucial for both the public and medical research organizations. Here’s why it matters: Educates the Public: Raising awareness about specific cancers helps people understand the causes and risk factors, allowing them to make informed health decisions. It also helps combat misinformation about cancer. Promotes Early Diagnosis: Awareness months encourage regular screenings, increasing the chances of early diagnosis. Catching cancer early means it’s more treatable, with a higher chance of successful outcomes. Supports Cancer Research: These months provide vital opportunities for fundraising to help medical organizations and clinical trials, which are essential for finding new treatments and cures. You can help make a difference today by donating to Gateway for Cancer Research, supporting clinical trials to improve cancer treatments. Together, we can fight back against cancer. www.drantoniogiordano.com | www.shro.org Antonio Giordano Temple University Università di Siena Temple University College of Science and Technology #CancerAwareness #EarlyDetection #SupportCancerResearch #GatewayForCancerResearch #GatewayForCancerResearch #ClinicalTrialsMatter #CancerResearchMatters #CancerSurvivor #StrongerTogether #HopeForACure #CancerAwareness #FightCancer #CancerPrevention #SHRO #antoniogiordano

💜 Research Matters. World #StatisticsDay. The impact #BreastCancerResearch is making in the world is truly eye opening. - Breast cancer is the most common cancer in American women, except for skin cancers.* - In 2024, an estimated 310,720 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in the U.S., as well as 56,500 new cases of non-invasive (in situ) breast cancer. - The 5-year relative survival rate in the U.S. of localized (early stage) breast cancer is 99%.* This is why regular screenings are so important. - Breast cancer death rates have slowly decreased since 1989, for an overall decline of 43% through 2020. This is in part due to better screening and early detection efforts, increased awareness and continually improving treatment options.* Since 2006 the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation has raised millions of dollars with 100% of the monies raised going directly to research grants to clinical and preclinical fellowships in high impact, breast cancer therapeutic research areas. 💜 We ARE making a difference. * https://lnkd.in/dSMYG_Ch Learn more about Our Strength... This week, as we acknowledge Rare Cancer Awareness Day, I'm honored to share that our work on Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC) and co-design has been accepted at MASCC in France 🇫🇷 . I'll be presenting tomorrow on the Power of Patient Advocacy – Making Metastatic Breast Cancer Count, while also showcasing through the Innovation stream our poster on the value of co-design in understanding patient experiences. Bringing awareness to the challenges faced by those with cancer and even moreso rare cancers is crucial. These challenges include high out-of-pocket expenses, limited information and support, restricted treatment options, less research and investment, and late diagnosis. Data is crucial if we are to improve outcomes for those diagnosed and living with rare cancers. #RareCancerAwareness #MetastaticBreastCancer #PatientAdvocacy #MASCC #Innovation #HealthcareResearch Breast Cancer Network Australia Rare Cancers Australia Sam Mills Siobhan Dunne Erana Boyd Kirsten Pilatti The Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC)

We believe that the key to advancing progress in childhood cancer research is by listening closely to those most impacted. Recently, we spoke to the childhood cancer community - including patients, families, carers, and healthcare professionals - to gain a deeper understanding of the greatest unmet needs in this area. This consultation helped identify the gaps in the field and where we feel we can make the most meaningful impact through our new research strategy. Here's what we learned is most needed: - Targeted treatments, tailored to childhood cancer biology - Translation of discoveries into innovations - Faster and more accurate diagnoses - Better clinical decision-making - Prioritise areas of unmet need - Tailored support throughout the entire patient journey - Improved collaboration and infrastructure Our focus will be on the translational aspects of these findings and driving change to impact the lives of children and families affected by cancer. Read more about the unmet needs in childhood cancer and our findings from our consultation in our resource document: https://lnkd.in/eY3RkjGs #ChildhoodCancerAwarenessMonth
