The recently closed AFWERX Open Topic cycle offered an exciting opportunity for innovators to collaborate with the #AirForce and tackle critical challenges. However, small businesses must recognize the competitive nature of this process and understand the importance of a robust funding strategy. #Startups and small businesses were invited to submit proposals aimed at enhancing the Air Force's capabilities in areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, space operations, advanced materials, and human performance. Discussions indicate that the likelihood of being selected is around 1%, based on the volume of submissions and historical selection averages. Therefore, it is crucial for startups to develop a comprehensive #fundingstrategy that includes multiple opportunities to increase their chances of advancing their technology and capabilities. By diversifying their approach and exploring various funding avenues, small businesses can better position themselves for success in future AFWERX cycles and other #innovation programs.

TechChill 2024 just wrapped up, showcasing Riga's growing global tech presence and supporting Ukraine this year. The event had series of competitions with #startups battling for a share of over €600,000 in prize money. 🏆 This year the event numbers speak for themselves: ● Record-breaking 2,300 attendees from 40 countries ● 600 startups including 30 from Ukraine ● 250 investors ● 60 media representatives! 🦾 Significant work was invested in supporting Ukraine. We are proud that the Latvian startup SUBmerge Baltic won a €10,000 grant from the Latvian startup community at the Fifty Founders Battle 24. It was created by the Rīgas Tehniskā universitāte (Riga Technical University) scientists, who are currently developing an underwater drone. As the curtains close on another successful show, I reflect on the fascinating startup section at #GISEC. Energetic innovators from across the globe shared their stories, highlighting the many challenges they face in the cyber industry. One such problem that caught my attention was the issue of secure communication, which surprisingly remains unsolved. I was impressed by the many startups presenting solutions for secure communication on unsecure conventional channels, as well as the companies in the business halls taking pride in providing solutions for the same problem. It's inspiring to see the dedication and commitment of these innovators. One startup in particular presented a plug-and-play solution for post quantum adversarial sophistication in breaking conventional encryption. This is just one example of the exciting innovations taking place in the cyber industry.
