Recently, Elena presented a groundbreaking poster at the IEEE PES ISGT Europe 2023 Conference (IEEE Power & Energy Society), titled “Evaluation of Photovoltaic Short-term Forecast Benefits for Isolated System Operation'', in collaboration with Thai Phuong Do from CEA-Liten, INES - Institut National de l'Energie Solaire. This research highlights the critical role of our very-short term solar forecasting solution, SteadyEye, in optimizing the sizing and management of off-grid microgrids composed of photovoltaic panels, batteries and gensets (link in comment). Diversity in the engineering field fosters a rich environment for the exchange of ideas, which cultivates positive culture and sparks innovation. Women are the largest untapped renewable energy source in the world, bringing diverse perspectives and approaches to problem-solving. It is essential for aspiring engineers to see themselves excelling and leading in this field, thereby creating a healthy pipeline of future talent. Some months ago, I was asked by EUREC - The Association of European Renewable Energy Research Centres what I would say, considering my experience as a renewable energy student and sustainability professional, to young women who are considering pursuing a green energy career. In my answer, I couldn't but quote Doctor Jane Goodall, from the The Jane Goodall Institute and the Jane Goodall Institute Global . The energy sector is essential for the development of any society and, at the same time, is one of the most polluting. Thus, the window of opportunity to decarbonise our energy sources is as big as urgent. If protecting the environment and our planet is an impact you see yourself involved in, why not give it a try? Today I was reminded how optimistic is the growth expected for jobs in the renewable energy sector, yet women only make up 22% of the workforce and 32% of the global renewable workforce. As Asma Rouabhia mentioned in her intervention: "we need to make sure that the energy transition is not only sustainable but equitable too". 🌍⚡ Key takeaways for young women: 💻 Look for specialized platforms and networks 🌐 Connect with professionals and build strong support systems. 💼 Push for more mentorship, partnerships, and once you are part of it: 🙋♀️ Help make energy programs more attractive for other women! Friday was International Women's Day 🎉 - at the Women in Green Energy Initiative, we are celebrating women as change makers and drivers of the global energy transition! However, despite their indispensable role, women remain underrepresented in the global energy workforce.
