🎧🚨 it must be Tuesday Demand for bio-based and bio-degradable cosmetic ingredients is at an all-time high, which is why suppliers are working to develop replacements for conventional polymers, esters, and emollients like silicones.   This week on the #CosmoFactory podcast, we hear about one multinational supplier intent on inventing high-volume sustainable ingredients. Our guest is Johannes Crotogino, Sustainable Innovation Platform Lead at BASF Personal Care. The Germany-based company was established in 1865 and is, today, the world’s largest chemical maker, serving industries including automotive, paints and coatings, electronics, plastics, textiles, home care, personal care, and more. 

The term "footprint" often has negative connotations - especially in the sustainability debate. However, we believe that there are also positive footprints for sustainability. Namely, when you leave footprints that point the way to a more sustainable future. So while we have just closed the doors of our laboratory for the last time, we want to show others the way with the work of Rheiazymes and the YARN-TO-YARN® project. Even if our team will not achieve the vision we have set ourselves in the field of enzymatic recycling of composite plastics - especially for the textile industry - we believe that every step, every footprint, counts to ensure that together we can achieve a sustainable, circular future. Therefore, we are very grateful that with the continued support of the Migros-Pionierfonds, we will make what we have learned regarding enzymatic recycling with filamentous fungi in liquid fermentation, but also regarding circular business models in the textile industry, publicly available in an opensourcing project in the coming month. We are convinced that these findings will help many pioneers, researchers, and entrepreneurs to leave their mark more quickly and hopefully more easily on their way to a #circulareconomy.
