“Life can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forwards” ~ Soren Kierkegaard As we wrap up 2024, it's important to look back for a moment: What are you proud of? What did you learn from? What is unresolved that you would benefit from unpacking and releasing? What are you bringing forward into the New Year? What are you grateful for as 2024 ends? Thank you to everyone I have met, worked and played with, grown with this year - the gift of you in my work and life is greatly appreciated! Wishing you a joy-filled and relaxing festive season, and may you have new opportunities and adventures to contribute your skills, talents and the uniqueness of YOU in 2025! Wrapping Up 2024: Growth, Gratitude, and New Beginnings 🌟 As we approach the final days of 2024, I find myself reflecting on the journey this year has been. From milestones achieved to challenges that stretched me, this has truly been a year of growth, learning, and intentionality. Key Moments of 2024: 1️⃣ Personal Growth: I completed my MSc, a journey that tested my endurance and solidified my passion for Finance and Technology. This milestone has further inspired me to pursue a PhD in Finance in the future. Learning never stops, and I’m excited to keep going! 2️⃣ Professional Transformation: This year, I expanded my freelancing career, embracing new challenges, projects, and clients that pushed me to be the best version of myself. I also took a bold step into thought leadership by starting to share insights about remote work, freelancing, customer support, and tech on LinkedIn—a journey I plan to continue. 3️⃣ Empowering Others: I started a one on one session to guide people transitioning into freelancing and tech. 4️⃣ Community Building: I started dreaming of a women-focused community —a space for networking, collaboration, investment, and empowerment. Though it’s in its early stages, I’m excited about the potential it holds to uplift and inspire women. Gratitude🙏🏽: I am incredibly grateful to everyone who has been part of my journey this year—my family, friends, clients, mentors, and online community. Your encouragement and belief in me have fueled my desire to keep reaching higher and striving for excellence. Looking Ahead to 2025: The upcoming year is already shaping up to be exciting. I will be starting my MBA, resuming a new job, writing an e-book and taking further steps to grow my woman-focused community. I’m eager to learn, grow, and make an even greater impact. As we step into a new year, let’s carry the lessons, wins, and hopes from 2024 with us. Here’s to dreaming big, working hard, and showing up for ourselves and others every single day. For you, how important is Optimism at work? Last weekend, we celebrated the first Freelancer of the Trimester award for 2024, where the Corp Team came together to have some fun and celebrate growth. We had the opportunity to participate in an optimism workshop by Coach Eugenio Pérez Toledano, where we learned how maintaining a positive mindset can help us achieve more and increase productivity. In a world of constant change and challenge, fostering an atmosphere of optimism within our teams is not just valuable; it's vital. Why? Because when optimism thrives, so does productivity. At Freelance Latin America, we take great pride in fostering a positive work environment. Our goal is to ensure that everyone feels welcomed and valued, and that their work is meaningful and impactful. To achieve this, we believe that having an optimistic attitude is essential in everything we do here. #Freelancelatam #teambuilding #companyculture

Instant gratification is the biggest trap of the 21st century—and it's holding so many 20-somethings back from the success they dream of. In a digital era where everything is a click away, we’ve become impatient: - Anxious if our DMs aren’t answered within hours. - Giving up on cold emails when there’s no instant reply. - Dropping new skills when we’re not experts in two months. - Quitting freelancing after six months if it’s not paying big. We treat our careers like instant coffee—quick, but lacking depth. Real success, though, is more like fine wine. It takes time, patience, and care. I know this because I’ve been there. I quit many opportunities when I didn’t see quick results. But when I committed to freelancing, no matter the struggles—sleepless nights, self-doubt, financial hurdles—I stuck it out. The result? I built a successful agency with a current team of 15+. If you’re in your 20s, remember: Don’t expect quick wins. Focus on learning before earning, take small steps, and aim for sustainable growth. Tell yourself, “I’ll give it my all for one year and see where it takes me.” The results will surprise you and you’ll thank yourself later. Have you ever fallen for the trap of instant gratification? #GrowthMindset #PatienceIsKey #TrustTheProcess

As 2024 comes to a close I am reflecting on my 30 years as independent consultant 'Susan Harwood & Associates' - the company I established in 1994 as a temporary measure when I found myself unemployed in the aftermath of a bruising public sector restructure. Until then my job had been in a workplace I loved, and in a role I had thrived in. It’s a story of career ‘love and loss’ that will be familiar to many. Having to work through and then rebuild my life after that shock to my system gave me what I came to reframe as invaluable insights and lived experience. That is, I learned what it feels like to not fit the template, to not be recognised and rewarded for hard work, and worse still to be on the receiving end of what we now describe as psychosocial harms. So what happened next? While testing out the dimensions of my new (precarious) path as a freelancing consultant, I discovered the advantages of being able to bring an external voice into organisations: coaching individuals and teams while dipping in and out of their workplaces, without becoming captive to their cultures. I have worked with some great delivery teams and engaged in some of my best work by being part of a collective of experts. What a great adventure it has turned out to be - largely working from my home office, being around for my (then) teenagers and later, having the flexibility to take on both short and long-term overseas development projects. While building my business I continued to build on my skills and knowledge (including in this journey a mature-age PhD). I take time to seek out professional development opportunities to renew, refresh and recharge. Crucially, I have worked with and learned from superstars in my field. I am grateful to colleagues and friends whose humour and strength supported me through challenging times, as well as to those who generously contributed to the success of my "word of mouth" business. This week everything I have done to this point came together when I signed a full-time, short-term contract as a GEDSI Technical Adviser to support climate resilient communities in the Indo-Pacific region. My work is not done and I am still following my passion - a great footnote to the 30-year anniversary.

Leaving the 9-5 Didn’t Mean I Couldn’t Go Back. 🤔 A week into my new role at Wilde Aparthotels, and it’s been a chance to reflect on the unexpected turns that come with changing career paths. When I left the 9-to-5 world to freelance and travel, I thought I’d never look back. The freedom to choose my own projects, work from anywhere, and experience new places was incredible. But after a year of that, I started to realize something was missing—the connection of working with a team. What I love about returning to full-time work is the social element. Collaborating, bouncing ideas around, and just being part of a group again—it’s energizing. It’s reminded me that leaving the 9-5 doesn’t mean it’s permanent. You can step away, explore, and then come back when the time feels right. Career paths aren’t always linear, and it’s been refreshing to realize that flexibility is key—whether you’re freelancing, traveling, or jumping back into a full-time role. Excited to see where this journey takes me next and remember the 9-5 does not have to make you feel miserable! 🚀✨ #CareerJourney #WorkLifeBalance #Teamwork #FlexibilityInWork #NewBeginnings #WildeAparthotels

There are only 100 days left until the New Year, and it’s got me reflecting deeply. It’s easy to get caught up in the goals we haven’t yet achieved, but what truly matters is our willingness to keep pushing and trying again. It’s not over until it’s over. I’ve decided to jump on a challenge with my team—Make Your First $1,000 in 100 Days. Now, while I’ve made that and more, this challenge is for those who are still finding their footing, especially freelancers who have honed their skills in today’s competitive world. For the next 100 days, I’ll be sharing my journey—highlighting the income-producing activities I’m doing so I stay on track too. It’s a journey I don’t want to miss out on, and by December, I want to have a very ‘detty’ and fulfilling celebration by God’s grace. So, what about you? How are you approaching these last 100 days? What steps are you taking to move closer to your goals? #goals #100daystotheNewYear #reflection #thoughts #productivity #notion
