#10_Years_of_Achievement: My Journey in Scientific Competitions, Entrepreneurship, and Student Activities This year marks a special milestone for me - not only am I graduating, but I'm also celebrating 10 years of an incredible journey! Since I was just 13 years old, I've been diving headfirst into the world of scientific competitions, entrepreneurship, and student activities. It's been a journey full of challenges and triumphs, one that has shaped me into the person I am today. This experience wasn't just about winning trophies or completing projects; it was a scientific and life school that transformed me from the inside out. Through countless scientific competitions, I honed my skills in research, creative thinking, and teamwork. Venturing into the world of entrepreneurship, I participated in the creation of innovative student projects, gaining invaluable experience in project management, marketing, and communication. These experiences taught me some of life's most valuable lessons: Challenge: Nothing is impossible, and believing in myself is the key to success. Teamwork: Collaboration is the foundation of achievement. Perseverance: No surrender, no matter the obstacles. Creativity: Thinking outside the box leads to excellence. Responsibility: Meeting deadlines and taking ownership of my actions. These experiences also opened doors to incredible opportunities. Thanks to the skills and experience I gained, I was able to secure the USAID Scholar Activity Grant, allowing me to pursue a distinguished specialization at university and further refine my skillset. Now, as I stand on the cusp of graduation, I look towards a future brimming with hope and optimism. It's a future built on the solid foundation of the skills and experiences I've accumulated over the past decade. I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who supported me throughout this journey: my family, friends, and teachers. Thank you to everyone who believed in me and offered a helping hand. "There are so many solutions and precedents. I don't see how I can innovate and stand out." ☝ For many young professionals, this is a demoralising realisation they face when they join large, established companies. So here's how I encouraged my mentee: 🌟 Learn to be a problem-finder. In a dynamic and fast-changing world, old solutions and precedents might solve the problem, but there are possible gaps. Learn how to ✅ observe stakeholders along the chain ✅ recognise the crux of the problem ✅ analyse the precedent/solution ✅ identify meaningful change Before innovation, our seniors found the problems and designed solutions or precedents. But back then, problems were larger, more painful and obvious, so becoming a problem-finder wasn't a necessary skill set. What other new skills do you think young professionals need? What if we could teach people to turn their knowledge into income and impact? This question has been at the forefront of my mind, guiding my journey with the knowledge business model. In a world filled with challenges, poverty, unemployment, and lack of access to education, knowledge is often the most underutilised resource. Yet, every solution to these global issues begins with empowering individuals to leverage their expertise. Because across the globe we have thousands of young professionals with solutions locked up inside of them. Imagine a young professional who has spent years honing their skills in marketing or finance. What if they could transform that knowledge into valuable services or products, creating not just a stream of income but also opportunities for others? The knowledge business model provides a framework for individuals to monetise their expertise. It equips them with the tools to create knowledge products like online courses, e-books, workshops, e.t.c. that can be shared globally. By teaching people how to harness their unique skills, we can not only uplift individuals but also foster entire industries. This ripple effect can lead to job creation, innovation, and sustainable economic growth. In my experience working with professionals, I’ve seen firsthand how shifting mindsets around knowledge can lead to significant changes. Those who embrace this model often report increased income, impact, and newfound confidence in their abilities. A degree was once considered a golden ticket to success, symbolizing expertise in a chosen field. However, a growing body of evidence suggests that real-world skills—problem-solving, creativity, communication, and adaptability—are far more critical in achieving success. This shift in perspective has been demonstrated by numerous successful entrepreneurs and startups worldwide. I consider these are the key reasons why skills are overtaking degrees: 1️⃣ Immediate Relevance: Skills match industry requirements, enabling professionals to contribute effectively from day one. 2️⃣ Practical Application: Employers prioritize candidates who can solve real-world challenges over those with theoretical understanding. 3️⃣ Adaptability: In a dynamic world, the ability to learn and adapt to new skills is invaluable. 4️⃣ Accessibility: Affordable platforms like Coursera, Udemy, and YouTube empower individuals to learn skills without formal education. I can share many real-world examples of Skill Triumphing Over Degrees: 1️⃣ Elon Musk: With degrees in Physics and Economics, Musk’s success with Tesla and SpaceX stems from his self-taught skills and relentless curiosity. 2️⃣ Steve Jobs: The co-founder of Apple dropped out of college but used his design, tech, and marketing skills to redefine industries. 3️⃣ Mark Zuckerberg: Harvard dropout Zuckerberg’s programming skills helped create Facebook, now a global phenomenon. 4️⃣ Ritesh Agarwal: OYO Rooms’ founder, without formal education, identified market gaps and innovated the hospitality sector. 5️⃣ Narayana Murthy: Infosys’ co-founder credits practical coding skills and strategies for his success, beyond academic qualifications. The Takeaway: “What You Can Do Matters More Than What You Studied”. Modern companies like Google, Apple, and IBM now prioritize skills over degrees for many roles. How do we get ahead of the curve, how do we stop expending so much energy and resource, reacting and sprinting just to keep up? This is one of the most common conversations I’m having at the moment, actually, it has been for the last two decades. It is also not sector specific. It is however, most prevalent in established organisations. Agility, innovation and development is easier on the way up; you’re building, innovating, challenging and evolving… you can move fast, fail and learn. The more established an organisation becomes, the more we have to lose, the focus inevitably changes to maintaining what we have, as a result we tend to become reactive, changing only when we have to. I was having a conversation with a Global CEO the other day, and we reflected on the fact that the same happens at national level. The world’s most established countries, are struggling to innovate, to change the way they think and behave and it is the developing countries where innovation is most exciting and dynamic. I smile at the moment at the number of experts being drafted in to work with sectors to help them understand AI, something that real experts were exploring over ten years ago. If we are to find a way to head the curve, we have to put innovation and adaptability powered by a real commitment to active learning, at the heart of our culture. We need to find the courage, vision and resource to focus on powering the future not reacting to the past. Over the years many have asked me how I made the transition from education, the answer is really not that complex, because I have always believed that learning and continuous education were at the heart of embracing change. I have always said that we learn nothing new by getting something right but at the point of a mistake or the realisation that we don’t know or can’t do something. We need to get serious about curiosity culture and of firing the mindset we exhibited as young children, when we had the confidence to question, to challenge and to explore. #change #learning #innovation
